my oil pressure stays at 120 psi!!! what is the problem??
i need help from you guys who has been in a similar situation. i live in san jose ca and the temperture is around 60F. i just have oil change with mobile 1 synthetic oil 10w-30. i used to have 5w-30 without any problems. but now i have a big concern... first i start up my car and the oil pressure gauge shows about 90 psi at idle. and after 10 mins of warm up it drop to around 70 psi. i start out really slow at 2500 rpm and i reached 120psi!!! (well the needle is way over 120 psi, it looks like it is going to fell off) it stayed that way after 15 mins of normal driving (under 3500rpm the whole time) until i shut the car down. the pressure go back to 0 psi when i shut it down. so anyone knows what is wrong with it??? motor oil problem? sensor? or the engine???

I noticed the oil pressure is very high when running Mobil 1. I switched to Royal Purple 10w-40, an even thicker grade of oil than Mobil 1 and the pressure seems more normal and I don't burn nearly as much oil. I also switched to a K&N Gold Oil filter and te pressure seems more stable with that as well. I guess since the Mobil 1 is pretty thin for a 30 grade oil it just rushes through the filter thus raising the "pressure"... Can any of the oil gurus chime in here?

I run mobil 1 synth. and have not notice a change in oil pressure, compare to other Zs using the oil used at nissan dealers.
Although I cant help you on your problem theres no reason your car should be at or over 120psi when just crusing

I had the same issue a while back, One of two possible things..
Oil filter is clogged/Bad causing higer oil pressure than normal or secondly the oil pressure sensor is bad, most likely. This was the case in my car..Change out the sensor, it should take you about 10 minutes, but do it during an oil change while the oil is empty or it will be a mess..
