5/16" Installed and hood doesn't fit

:icon20: What the bejesus, I think the strut bar spacers are too large (or I f'ed up) because it clears the plenum, but the hood is not closing properly....I'm pissed

A_16 Feb 3, 2006 03:13 PM

ummmm u f'd up Cant recall having a fitment with the hood issue

Bubble Feb 3, 2006 03:17 PM

raise the hatch up a little then you will be able to close your hood.

Tortuga Feb 3, 2006 04:07 PM

hmmm, shouldnt be any fitment issues with 5/16. I would just recheck everything, but I am sure you already did that. May have strut bar adjusted incorrectly.

does it shut and bulge in the middle or just not shut at all?

is it the iso or the basic?

i got mine yesterday and was messing around with it. i havent installed it because i gotta get a friends torque wrech first.

there looks to be some washers you put under the strut aswell. i also read where someone used just the washers and not the spacers and it cleared. also you might want to try adjusting the tension on your strut bar.

let me know because im about to undertake the same thing

Miraclekidjr Feb 3, 2006 09:01 PM

It closes with a buldge on the left...iso thermal which doesnt matter....I think I adjusted the bar too much

taurran Feb 3, 2006 09:13 PM

Is this a stock hood?

Mine contacts the aftermarket hood. I placed some weather stripping under the hood to keep it from damaging the strut bar. Seems to work fine for me.

I've got the basic 5/16" and I had the bulge on the drivers side. I took out the spacers and I have a little bit of clearance between the strut bar and plenum and my hood now closes with no bulge. If you want you might try just using the washers under each bolt and see if that works. But like I said, if you still have a bulge, take out the washers and just reinstall the strut bar like it was w/o the spacers or washers.

so you dont have washers or spacers on the drivers side correct? did you try just the washers and still got the bulge?

does the strut bar still make contact with the under hood even though it doesnt bulge?

thanks

Man, you guys are getting me worried. I'm about to order the MD 5/16" spacer, but I don't want to run into any fitment issues. So let me get this straight. So you need to put washers to the strut bar to clear the 5/16" spacer?

RP-350Z Feb 4, 2006 07:47 AM

mc350z,

Correct, I didn't use washers or spacers and it fits fine. I have room between the plenum and strut bar and my hood doesn't bluge. With the washers I noticed an ever so slight bulge on the drivers side.

I think the strut bar slightly rests on the hood but if you will notice there are rubber strips on the underside of the hood that protect.

onebadfyvo,

Don't let this scare you away, this is an excellent modification you can do to help gain HP on your Z. And it's relatively cheap. For the $ you can't beat it.

Me too. I also have the same spacer and am waiting for warmer weather to install. If I have any fitting problems, I’ll just leave the OEM strut brace off. Then buy a brace that will fit properly.

chimmike Feb 4, 2006 10:05 AM

i think this one is operator error....or maybe he left a screwdriver under the hood somewhere.

i installed this identical piece, isotherm, and have NO clearance issues as advertised.

davidv Feb 4, 2006 10:10 AM

It sounds like the clearence between the upper plenum and brace

...and brace and hood are tight. What happens at maximum torque when the engine moves?

Miraclekidjr Feb 4, 2006 02:07 PM

I fixed it to almost perfect by taking the rubber stopper out from the driver side hood section
