another thing, try it out for a few days before you make your choice, I like more and more each day. Make sure you listen to it driving around, not just reving it up.

That does it,..all I needed to know.

Do you like it Hogan? Is it worth it?

I like both exhausts, if I had to choose between with the presilencer or w/ out the presilencer, I choose WITH OUT. Close choice, but it just sounds more aggressive. Its not too loud, in fact I can't really even tell unless I listen to it w/ my window down. I would definetly try it out, you don't have that much to loose.

To clarify, the camera is facing the rear of the car, right!???!?!

Also, does this cause any probs with passing emissions testing?

Thanks,
DD

DiverDown,

To me it looks like the camera is under the rear of the car, facing the front. It seems like you can see the stock y-pipe off in the distance.

It shouldn't affect smog, since the resonator is simply a chamber used to increase the overall volume of the exhaust to create a deeper sound (like when you blow into the top of a large wine jug vs. a small beer bottle). So far there has been no mention of smog equipment in that area.

-D'oh!

PS. Just curious, you a VanHalen fan, a scuba diver, or both (or mayber neither)?

DiverDown Jan 28, 2003 12:01 AM

Yep, both... SCUBA and Van Halen. Honestly, I wasn't thinking of Van Halen when I started using the screen name though.

So, with the presilencer out, there will be a higher/more raspy sound? Or will it be deeper?

Thanks,
DD

DiverDown,

Should be a higher pitched, more raspy sound. I hear the raspy sound is especially noticable when the engine is cold.

I would say it is a louder sound, that is best way to describe it, if you want something that is louder on the outside, but not in the inside, then it is for you. It doesn't sound as good when you first start engine and rev it up, but you shouldn't be doing that anyway, it sounds just fine when you drive cold or warm, but better when it has warmed up. JUST IMO

DiverDown Jan 29, 2003 03:13 PM

That's what I needed to know. Thanks.

I'm still debating on doing this even though it's a low cost mod, I just don't know if I'll like it or not. Plus, I don't need another reason to rev it out so much..........;)

nrc motorsports Jan 29, 2003 03:14 PM

the car sounds to raspy without it, but thats just me.. i thought it sounded better with the resonator in place and no muffler:) nice deep sound then:icon04: to me it's not that loud but i also used to have an s2000 with a spoon n1 exhaust..if you've never heard one, it's very indy carish:D

My combo

Injen Intake, Resonator delete, and a MagnaFlow straight through muffler.

Sounds incredible, very deep for a V6, no rasp and growls at WOT.

Mr Fairlady Jan 29, 2003 08:44 PM

What was the price on the Magnaflow--did they have it @ the place you went to or you got it afterwards??

That sounds pretty cool,..feel a difference w/ the mUff or just the Res cut @ all,.I';m going Jan 30th in the am to get mine done!

12SecZ Jan 29, 2003 09:55 PM

The Magna Flow was in stock at Muffler Tech

I only recommend no chambers (straight through) if you plan on FI or Nitrous, this is why I switched from FlowMaster to MagnaFlow. The OEM is 5 chambers, the FlowMaster is 3 chambers and the MagnaFlow is zero chambers.

I also increased my exhaust piping size. Normally this would decrease back pressure and torque but in my case it is going up (20 pounds so far) and will go up even further (torque) when I add my Zex Kit, high flow cats and headers.

To me it was all about free flowing exhaust, I got lucky on the sound, it's perfect!

Snarls at start-up, sounds stock at idle and growls at anything above 3500-4000 rpm's. The higher the rpm's the more it growls, it really sounds like a race car.

The FlowMaster seemed to have more raspiness to it but FlowMaster = $100-125, MagnaFlow straight through race series $140-165.00

An Injen will add 20 lbs of torque if the exhaust done right (Dyno proven be me recently, so I guess it depends on where you plan on going with your mods.

Hpe this helps.

I just got my Z about 2.5 weeks ago, and I realize I'm bringing this thread back from the dead. I had the resonator removed today, cost just a few bucks, and I really enjoy the sound of it, it's really not raspy, just higher pitched and louder. Still has the same type of sound to it. I can post videos with sound if you'd like.

ChrisMCagle May 26, 2004 11:53 AM

Sound

Yeah... post the video and sound clips

crappy quality.. it's from a digicam.. and I ran out of batteries taking a second video, but I'll have more up soon.

ChrisMCagle May 26, 2004 01:38 PM

Hmmmm... sounds like stock to me
