Worst mod I've ever done... Topspeed/B&M short shifter
I know others have posted this before, but I would like to stress this. If you were thinking about buying these short shifters, DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These suckers literally sings as the engine rpm goes up... The noise level is beyond anybody's tolerance.. trust me.... These short shifters are not coated with rubber like the OEM, so it vibrates against other metals, and makes constant "THA~THA~THA~THA~" noise. I lived with this noise for 4 months and I couldn't handle it anymore... so I just replaced with other short shifter that's coated with rubber. Guess what? That terrible metal vibration noise is gone. |
Which one did you go with? Im looking to get one myself.

Ya pleaze let us know cuz mine rattles like a mother and its drivin me insane...
|
The replacement I got seems to be new to the market. It's made by Revo technica or someting. I got it on ebay for $35... ;) No NOISE!
|
oh man. you guys shouldve just gotten mossy. its a modified stock shifter that has 33% shorter, 66% shorter, stock height or 33% taller.
|
i was wondering about this also. in my 98 civic i had a skunk2 short shifter, and i heard a few noises, nothing bad. until my exhaust pipe was basically touching the bottom of the shifter/linkage it would BUZZ AND RATTLE like crazy. i could use a firmer engagment feel...but dont really need a shorter throw.

I have the Mossy adjustable and I loved it, until it started to rattle. Well, I can't say it's the shifter. I had my tranny replaced 3,000 miles ago and it seems that the rattling is coming from the area where the linkage connect to the tranny. The shifter itself is tight, and all parts are snug and there does not seem to be any loose components. When I accelerate, it is like a chain saw coming up from the shifter. I can feel the vibration and if I hold the shifter down (like in third gear, pressing it hard) then it seems to go away, but as soon as I let go... rattle, rattle, rattle. It looks like it's time for another trip to the stealership. :(

one mod I've never even had the faintest need for is a short shift...I find the stock shifter to be among the nicest I've ever drive, second only to the one my S2k had

Hmm on second thought Ill just stick with the stock shifter and shift knob. Ill Save my money for S-Tune suspension....

I had a B&M short shifter... What a nightmare. It wasn't loud at all... Engagement was much more difficult and I would miss 5th gear alot. The redesigned it a little with a larger block to hold it in the guide plate area but I still wouldn't recommend it. Actually... if you want one... Mine's still in the closet somewhere.

There's a trick to installing the B&M shifter to remove any slop or vibration that I explained in another one of my posts a few months ago. |
the stock shifter is great, but if i was interested in getting a shorter shift, i'd get the mossy one. its amazing when i felt it. when i played with it it was on the 33% longer and it was butter smooth.
