Nissan's Twin Turbo for 3.5 Engine?

I just received this...
The good news is that if it is the same engine as the 350Z (why wouldn't) then simply get the manifolds and turbines from your local Nissan dealer!! :D
The bad news is, not until 2005!!!
It would be great to know the specs of the engine internally, to see what Nissan did to the engine internally (if anything) to handle 400hp.

What about the compression ratio difference??

travs_z Feb 27, 2003 08:40 PM

I agree. The engine would require pistons with a lower compression ratio. say 8.5:1 or something like that.

Hehe, this gets asked at least once a week over at twinturbo.net ,"cant I just use the turbo/manifolds off a TT 300ZX on my NA?" they have a whole FAQ on what the diffences are both internal and external, check it out, it will give you a better idea of the endless differences between turbo and NA motors, some large, some small, but all significant;)

And they'd probably want to go with a semi-closed deck to handle the higher boost....

Interesting... My experience with 300ZX is with the Twin Turbo only. I have done and seen too many turbo conversions to list here with different makes and models. Many of them taking advantage of another model already turbo charged. Its not an easy job. Oil lines, down pipes, etc. A difficult project no less.
But I didn't know that Nissan had significant differences between the N/A and the TT. Maybe the N/A was the old engine and the TT the new one

IMO, Nissan will try to work with the current engine without spending too much in R&D. Its cheaper and easier to work with what you already have than to design something new.

Nissan Skyline GTR 2005!!!

ok i found this picture and supposedly there is evidence that a 2004-5 skyline will be coming to the US but don't you think this picture is fake? I mean, it looks JUST like a Z w/ different scoops. IDK, I guess it looks better than the other Skyline concept. They have the chance to make a GREAT car if the Skyline comes to the US. Competition for the BMW M5, Mercedes E55, and all the other luxury touring sports cars with lots of HP. Hopefully they will make this Skyline a techno, performance wonder and keep the Z a cheap sports car instead of blurring the lines and making both heavy, sluggish, and overpriced as the last Z became...

What price does the magazine estimate it will come in at?

richZ Feb 28, 2003 02:25 AM

I bought this magazine last week and it makes a good read, in fact I've read it a few times now and I want one even more than my Z... although the Z will come in at around £30K

For the UK, they estimate that the new GT-R (Skyline name being dropped, as I think this is going to the G35) will cost £60K, so probably something like $60K in the US. (Rip Off Britain in action again).

Looks like they photoshopped the Z hood on the GTR concept.

About the E55 AMG i beat one on the free way we raced to about 155 then i shut down because my friend in the car was scared... they are fast at take off but i killed him on the freeway

JmanZ Feb 28, 2003 03:17 PM

That is a photoshop, without question.

As for the TT not being available until 2005, I posted this awhile back. It's old news, the GT-R is shown this year in Tokyo (November), available in 2004. The TT Z won't be here though until mid to late 2005. I've heard they'll show it in Tokyo for the first time in Nov 2005, I had also heard Detroit (Jan) 2005 so if they stay on track.... 2005 is the year.

Here's the bad part though.... thus far, nothing that has been reported in UK magazines about future Z developments has been true. So whatever you read, don't take it to heart.

The UK press is the worst for making crap up to sell magzines.

Check the cover for example. I rest my case. :)

The GT-R was rumored to be a TT 3.5 V6 but I have heard from VERY reliable sources it WILL be a 4.5 liter V8. Major bang for the buck, est price starting around $60,000 area. In November though, we'll all know for sure. :)

With gas prices, I bet most are praying for the V6! :D

Actually, I don't think that is a photoshop. It looks like they took the GT-R concept and put a new front end on it. Either way, I doubt it's how the GT-R will wind up looking.

Here is another look at the original GT-R concept...

They stole the Vette's tail lights!

No they didn't, all Skylines have had those taillights since way back in the day. So, actually Chevy stole the Skyline's taillights.

dmcgibbo Feb 28, 2003 08:14 PM

haha if they take that skyline concept and make it look more like a datsun/aston martin amv8 concept, then it will be great!

GodZilla Mar 1, 2003 12:33 AM

it will still cost 10k+ no matter how you look at it
