Dyno'd my 5AT w/ minor bolt ons

Went to lapd over at chatsworth ( www.thelapd.com ) to get my lightly modded Z dynod before i do something drastic (i.e. header +cams + tune or Vortech). i keep hearing it's a great place to dyno in the valley. $75 for 3 pulls and tells you your a/f ratio on a dynojet. things to consider:

-i have the heavy touring 17s
-weather in chatsworth was in the high 90s.
-my Z already has 52K (been driving it like CRAZY)
-mods are very light: stillen dual exhaust, k and n typhoon intake, KJR crank pulley, 5/16" iso thermal spacer

Well, I just got back. I'll post the dynos when I get my hands on a scanner. Wasn't too surprised with the results. realise I have a 5AT.SAE corrected on a dynojet @ 99F weather.

Run #1-4th gear 228.45whp 222.87tq
Run #2-4th gear 228.19whp 224.23tq

Run #3-3rd gear 242.97whp 216.67tq
Run #4-3rd gear 241.97whp 219.25tq <--best run

if i were to account a 26% drive train loss:
@ 4th gear i'm running 287.5 hp and 282 tq at the crank
@ 3rd gear i'm running 303 hp and 276 tq at the crank

So does that mean my mods didn't do anything? i dunno. I never did a baseline dyno before the i/e/p/sp so for all i know i could have baselined at 210-215. the real reason I went to a dyno to begin with was to see my a/f ratio. after the motordyne spacer i was curious how lean i would be (not that my light mods were going to run me in dangerous territory). basically my a/f was almost perfect till 4.5K rpm through 6K rpm.after 6K rpm it was perfect again. the a/f peaked at 5K rpm @ 13.9..just threading close to 14.

the guys over at lapd were really cool. they had some really nice corvettes there. anyone in the valley want a dyno for $75 this is the pace to go.

now time for me to scan and load these up...

^ Did you mean 20% drivetrain loss? Seems like your numbers are closer to 20% drivetrain loss which is about right for our 5AT. Also, you might squeeze some improvement with a tune for those bolt-ons.

people need to stop comparing numbers, there are too many variables, its almost to even compare your own car with different mods if they werent done the same day...

26% drivetrain loss is way too much, its more like 18 to 20 %

a tune would get you easily 10-15 hp added. i would look into a utec and have someone tune it. :)

for instance, my car made 256 with those same mods plus test pipes here in florida dynojet SAE corrected. so its impossible to compare

I agree...

As for the drive train loss, i have an auto. so i'm not getting 20%...not when 287hp 6MTs are dyno'ing at 230s (around 20%). I thought front engine rwd cars just have larger drive train loss than a mid engine rwd car...or a front engine FWD car...

again the #'s are not to show how good or bad the mods are. it's just a baseline for when (or if) i put more serious mods...and yes i'm looking into utec (with mild cams)...i just need someone who has experience with it:icon38:

Again, if you take your numbers above, for example 228rwhp, a 26% drivetrain loss would mean your crank HP is 308hp. The 242rwhp would get ya 327 crank HP.

LOL...i'm sorry i think the heat got to me...what am i thinking??!! :icon17: ...i started adding the percentage from the loss and not the other way around...

I have a 5at and love it. I've been driving manuals since i was a kid and This one shifts so quick and smooth. My mods are similar as you can see in my sig. I'm hoping I'm making like 245 right now and maybe 260 once i get a dyno tune.

i just got DC headers...now that i have a baseline i'll know exactly how much they get..plus how it changed my a/f..

ZLadie2000 Nov 20, 2006 03:42 PM

post the numbers. I'll be getting my 5at dynoed soon too at Jeremys shop! I cant wait!

DayBlueZ Nov 20, 2006 04:38 PM

I thought it was 18% for autos and 15% for manuals for power loss between the crank and the wheels. I just put Strup headers on and my AF leaned WAY out.

well i have a 5 At befor i went F/I. i dynoed 219.58 whp.. stock so i lost alot

DanielW Nov 24, 2006 11:03 AM

damn dude i road in an 06 6mt and it really did feel that much more powerful than the 5at i have

godmans Nov 25, 2006 09:59 AM

I thought 5AT drivetrain lost is around 25%
Most people 5AT dyno (on a dynojet) around 210~215 whp stock
so by doing the math.. it is around 25%?

P.S. by 210~215whp, I mean corrected numbers

i wish that were true that would mean i gained 25-30whp...lol. :icon17:

DanielW Nov 25, 2006 11:07 AM

What is it that would cause AT's to have more drive train loss?

godmans Nov 25, 2006 11:56 AM

well
the torque convertor + the AT gearbox is just not as efficient as the
clutch and manual gearbox...
