If so what cams are you using? Do they improve your top end power? I am considering the Nismo cams and the new Crawford "Street" cams. The Nismos are more aggressive than I original thought after looking at them further.

thing w/ cams is that their real benafit is after 6200 RPM. If you get the rev limiter raised w/ the right springs you can rev to 7200 rpm and still make power if you're N/A. W/ shorter gears, you loose top speed, but w/ more RPM to play wit, you gain it back. The result? 10% more acceleration w/ 5% more power and 10% more RPM..

By the way the Nismo cams are 462 degree duration and .426" lift compared to the stock 240/.376. For comparison sake the JWT cams are 460 degree duration.

you'll ger good gains up top with the NISMO and they are drop ins, no tuning, etc needed. Not anywhere near the most aggressive cams but without a built head, you can't use the better ones anyway

it depends on the cams you get...
if you get the nismo R-Tune cams then they dont really gain much over the factory rev limited power band...
If you do something like JWT S1 cams w/ Rev-UP lower plenum and your motor is making more power at higher RPM's... then reguardless of what final drive gear you have or rear tire size you will make more power in the upper RPM's..
the advantage of running a 3.7 or 3.9 FD w/ a high revving engine you get more MPH out of each gear, so the loss of top speed in gear isnt as drastic...

Your losing power where you normally would in a non-revup. Your redline was 6600 RPM's. Bumping up the redline does nothing unless you modify the engine to take advantage of it. Cams are a start, but even with teh Nismo's, you won't see huge improvements unless you get agressive cams up top.
And like said, the 3.9 will do nothing but get you through the RPM band faster. It will not shift the power band in anyway. You will still be making the same power as before, just getting to the peak point faster.

there will not be significant power differences between NISMO and JWT - they are virtually the same.
If you want more power up top you need a more aggressive cam. This will also net you less power down low

Thanks for all the comments. It looks like the Nismo cams will improve my top end power without sacrificing low end power or drivability. That is exactly what I am looking for.
I could go with more aggressive cams, but as Z1 stated above a more aggressive cam will net less power down low. I am not willing to do that at this point. More radical cams will also effect overall drivability.
I was also surprised to learn through my own reserach that the difference in the stock cams and the Nismo cams is fairly significant (240/.376 v. 262/.426).
I let you know my impressions after I get them installed next week.

ok yes the numbers are really close...
JWT Cams - loose low end power / gain high end and keep gaining high end power past redline
NISMO Cams - make power accross original rev limited power band...
this has been found from everyone who has installed them in past posts on this board...
I have personal experience with OE / NISMO / JWT cams... as well as many others on this board...
If you want to go by the spec's they arent much more then stock to begin with either...

I would like to see the power curve for these cams...that will definately tell you which ones you will like. So what if x makes more low end than y if you have 3.9 gears...you are going to be in the upper rpm end all the time when racing, y would be the better choice if it makes more power up top and for longer.

I am getting my Nismo cams installed Tuesday or Wednesday. I am getting the fuel hose recall done at the same time. I will post my impressions hopefully Thursday or Friday.
