Poll for all 06's owners

I know this was discussed in an earlier thread but I would like to just get a poll of the '06's having oil consumption problems versus those that are running correctly. I wonder how big of a problem this is.

2FastG354U Sep 15, 2006 07:56 AM

I know my G35 sucks oil down like crazy it's annoying..

davids Sep 15, 2006 09:12 AM

Nope.
Running Royal Purple 5w30 since first oil change.
Nothing abnormal.

stein Sep 15, 2006 09:21 AM

no iol issues here. Dealership does the oil changes for the first two years, have 13mo to go.

BlackZero6 Sep 15, 2006 10:20 AM

nope

kray-z Sep 15, 2006 11:24 AM

I drive mine 140 miles to work round trip daily and drive like kray-z on my days off, I have the oil changed every 3000 to 4000 miles. I just hit 14,000 and only had it for 4 months.

Mid117 Sep 15, 2006 11:27 AM

yeah, mine does burn oil a little bit...i got 6600 miles on mine

used royal purple the first oil change and Mobile 1 the second time.

nator's z Sep 15, 2006 11:28 AM

Negative Ghostrider. Really don't drive the often enough to tell though.

Bmacs Sep 15, 2006 11:49 AM

why change oil when you can change engines

06 ZR with 14k miles
making appointment for my 3rd engine. 1 factory, 1 short block and now long block.

Got to love the 3 strike rule.

I don't change oil I replace engines. For such a fun car it is crazy to have these issues.

Miko Sep 15, 2006 11:52 AM

Good god man. Three engines, on an '06!!
What was happening, the oil practically just drains out? lol
Wow, what an issue. Do you track it often, or?

cellude Sep 15, 2006 12:05 PM

Thanks for the response and I will continue to track the results. I ask because currently I'm about to purchase an '06, but this not being my daily driver I have the luxury of waiting for an '07. Of course I don't care that much about the extra ~15 hp. Just trying to decide what to do, because I would absolutely hate to have to continue going to the dealership for repairs.
My Z32 and S13 never had these higher than normal failure rates, what happened?

Bmacs Sep 15, 2006 12:10 PM

change your engine not your oil

Daily driver.

Live in Tucson AZ - NO HIGHWAYS - We have just I10. I do clip along pretty good. I like keeping in the power range. about 3k to 4k rpm. This should be nothing on a redline of 7k. Service manager said straight up "DRIVE THE CAR DON"T BABY IT" he owns a 03 zr. He has had no issues.

Nissan Techs tell them all kinds of crap. They think replacing the PCV will stop me from losing 2-2.5 qrts per 2500 miles. NOT....

Next tech said order long block....

Just keeping paper trail so i can go to court.

Anyway it is a great looking car and fun to drive when it is not in the shop.

chochoky86 Sep 15, 2006 12:26 PM

Bought mine in Feb. 2006 I have 7,200 miles first oil change was at 3k Royal purple second at 6k Ams oil and no problems:icon44:

Durden76 Sep 15, 2006 02:50 PM

Had my 06 for 9mo. with 9k on it. Started oil consumption test last week with Power Nissan. Not official yet but looks like I'm burning through between 2 and 3 quarts every 3k. It's my daily driver and I do plenty of spirited driving but I don't beat on it too hard and have never tracked it (yet). Not really looking forward to the break-in period of the new block when I get it. It looks like this may become a big issue with the rev-up engines.

Rick06Z Sep 15, 2006 05:25 PM

.

zman1910 Sep 15, 2006 06:10 PM

I burn anywhere from 0.5 - 0.75 quarts every 3000 miles. My 04 did that as well so I'm not concerned. I'll just top it off when necessary

Swiffer Sep 15, 2006 08:04 PM

Nope.

johnc Sep 15, 2006 08:26 PM

Basically if your dipstick reads at the very bottom of the hatched area you are down one quart as far as I understand (anyone feel free to corect me if I'm wrong). This is pretty much standard for all pasenger vehicles. If you are still reading in the OK range after a couple thousand miles , I would not be concerned, just keep an eye on your fluid levels like you normally would.
My consumption data, at this point, is only estimated. You can get a fairly accurate measure when doing an oil change (assuming you haven't added oil since your last change). Measure the oil that you drian by pouring it from the drain pan back into empty oil containers. Not perfect but I would guess that it is accurate to within 1/4 qt or better.
