Exclamation ECU Error Codes -- very helpful

Ok I did a boolean search for ECU Error Codes and nothing showed up. So please don't yell REPOST. Because I would bet members have never seen this long a$$ list of codes before.

I just had my SES light come on for the 2nd time and got

P1274 Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor 1 for my ECU Error code.

I've had a piggy back chip (Unichip) for over 3000 miles now and never had a problem up until now. If anyone has had this problem please chime in. The rest of the codes are below.

edit: I just talked to a Mechanic @ Brown Nissan of Sterling and he said it's probably a bad sensor. Taking it in Monday and I'll let everyone know the details.

Ok ... I took out my plug n play Unichip prior to going to the dealership. Whadya know my SES light didn't come on. I always have my piggyback chip in the "aggressive" setting and the company that makes the chip warns that a CEL may show up it you use this setting. I'm going on 4000 or so miles while using this setting without a problem. I think I need to reset my ECU. Needless to say I canceled my appointment since I know the cause of the SES.

btw: I agree with Keith (superchargedG) ... can we make this a Sticky? these codes are quite useful.

yes very helpful, but I believe you may have had trouble finding the other posts usually people refer to the "error code" as a "check engine light / CEL" or "service engine soon" light or SES / or possibly even DTC "diagnostic trouble code" I've also seen MIL "malfunction indicator lamp"

anyway, now that all of those key words are in this thread, it should be easier for people to search.

Thanks for posting.

I have a UTEC tuned running high 12s on full throttle and the ECU is hovering around 14.1-14.5 under normal cruising and I got the same code just recently. Is an AFR of high-12 just too low and throws a code?

I keep throwing this.

P0420 TW (Two-Way) Catalyst System, Bank 1

What exactly does it mean and what can happen as a result of this?

Most effecient A/F is 14.7 to 1, This is where you get Least amount of HC, CO, and NOx which are bad for you, and your C02 is high which is 14.7. This is ratio that the car wants to achieve at cruise and at most times but under heavy accel its hard. Though cruise (stock) its programmed to be as close to 14.7/1.

So since you have a UTEC, your A/F might be off at certain points. Check the 02S on exhaust, which is the sensor that will tell the ECU if your rich or lean, but since you're running in Open loop with UTEC its probably trying to go rich.

I might be wrong though, Still learning.

Thanks everyone for the pointers. I just rented the Actron CP9136L scanner from my local Autozone for a fully refundable deposit of $165.
Very simple... extremely simple actually: just plug it in under the dash, turn the ignition to the ON position (while keeping the MOTOR OFF), and vwolla!

The scanners and codes only give you a starting point. As far as the P0444: EVAP emission control system purge valve c open. First step would be to smoke test the system and find the leak. This code can be anything froma simple leak in a vacuum hose, a loose gas cap, or Evap Cannister itself. As I said you would want to smoke test the system and then you would find your leak. Best bet is take it to the dealer or a Nissan shop that knows what they are doing.
