Default I need new tranny and I want 3.917 gearing

OK, I have that stupid 3rd gear grind with my 03. I am going to need to replace the tranny it looks like. Now if I wanted to go to a 3.917 FD and my tranny was ok, would i still need to rebuild the tranny to swap the gears out? I guess my question is would I have to drop the tranny to swap the gears anyway? I'm assuming this is a good time to do the 3.917 FD. How much are the Nismo 3.917 FD gears?

Also I don't want to put in another 03 tranny. Do all 6MT trannys (04-06) retrofit the 03? What's your best advice to me and how I should attack this? I would like to do this in the next month.

Your final drive has nothing to do with your tranny. The ring and pinion is housed in the rear end.

You can get different gearing for the transmission... It will change the shift points etc... But, it will cost a heck of alot more then the 3.9 swap...

honestly the stock shift points are not all that bad, they progress upward each shift

if I were to change the gearing at all in terms of strictly performance, I'd make 1st gear a little taller, and 5th and 6th gear slightly shorter
