Engine Blew Up Please Help
On monday night my engine threw a rod out. Literally. I need a brand new engine. Nissan might cover it. Car has 50k miles on it and it is an 05. I drive alot. I bought the extended warranty so all is good there but there are some modificatios. I/E/Pulleys/Plenum Spacer
Regardless...they are trying to tell me that if nissan doesn't cover this than a used motor with install is going to run me 5000 and if it is a new motor it is going to run me around 9500. Doesn't that seem a bit off.
The service manager said i need to produce all my oil change documentation which is not a problem. I have got my oil changed every 3500 to 4000 miles and used synthetic.
Anyway...can anybody give me some advice on what to do?
Thanks,
mike

This may sound silly but now is a great time to go FI..
You could find a used engine and have some reputable tuner shop throw it in for ya and come out well below 5k
All the mods you have are very easy to take out and is something you shouldve done to avoid this whole mess. Either way the engine should be covered by Nissan

yeah, take everything off your z, if one place does not cover it, take everything off your car, back to stock, and take it to another dealer, we did that with a friends 350z,
He has his cold air on, and they said he sucked water into his engine and it blew, we told the service manager he was a joke because we had a drout at the time, so no rain in site for like 2 months, we were like WHAT did we have the car sit for 2 months with the engine blown, well needless to say, we got a friend at another dealership to fix the problem, it sucked haveing to tow the car to another dealer, though!

Legally proving oil changes doesn't mean just a purchase receipts for oil/filter after all it could be used somewhere else in another car.
It requires a receipt from a company or technican with date, VIN, and mileage, oil viscosity and amount, and signature.
You would be surprised at the low quality bogus paper work some try to recreate when asked to prove oil/filter changes.

you got owned by the dealer because you didn't know what laws there were to protect you.
the Magnusson-Moss act states that if the dealer cannot prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that x mod caused x part to break, they HAVE to replace/repair the part per warranty.

In order for them to deny you a warrantee on your motor, they must prove the mods caused the problem. If they can't and still deny you...get a lawyer...you'll get it warranteed.
edit: just saw the above post....two guys saying it now. Take notes..
