not bad for stock, 300hp is rate sae at the flywheel not the wheels!

Nihilation Jan 16, 2007 04:55 PM

However taking 15% drivetrain loss from 300bhp = ~255whp. Even 287bhp should equate to ~243whp.

I'd be pissed. The first year RX8's were putting down really low HP numbers and Mazda eventually did something about it after all the complaints.

What type of dyno were you on? SAE corrected numbers?

DROPPEDIT2WCE Jan 16, 2007 04:56 PM

auto or manual?

nondezkrypt Jan 16, 2007 05:01 PM

I've been considering buying a Z, and consistent among all the boards is that the car is underpowered stock and expensive to get power from. Is that the concensus?

dave079 Jan 16, 2007 05:02 PM

Umm dealers advertise crank hp, not rwhp.

Depends on what you consider fast. Yes its expensive to mod, but thats any vehicle. Test drive one and make a decision based your your own opinion.

DROPPEDIT2WCE Jan 16, 2007 05:04 PM

blah blahhh other boards, the z is quick with the right drivers. search the timeslips and look at what mods and the times. who cares about the dyno, its just a tool for tuning. results are on the track.

Look at what we are getting off of N/A dynos:

I also think you meant to use the word "concensus", not consistent.

here, look at the diffrences in drivers times. you could get a c6 z06 and go 19.1 because it scares the piss out of you or get really good in the z stock and go 13's

You have an '04 z? 287 hp?
I would say thats about right on the money.

Hella Jan 16, 2007 05:23 PM

what kind of dyno? Sounds reasonable for a stock z on a mustang dyno.

It seems the OP thinks that the dealers advertise rwhp.

MyZFiona Jan 16, 2007 05:27 PM

ok............... lets not confuse the dealers flywheel rated hp.. to your true whp.......... thats like someone getting upset for buying a 6.0GTO with 400hp and realizing its only pushing 335hp to the wheels......

tylerdurden07 Jan 16, 2007 05:33 PM

Sounds about right... Don't feel discouraged

whitebwoy Jan 16, 2007 05:34 PM

Not only does every dyno read differnt, but we've no idea what type of dyno he's talkin about.

Undepowered? 0-60 times stock are nothing to scoff at (5.6 2006). Saying that though, I think Nissan can do better with it. It is a heavy car, but that is what happens with a shared platform.

I always hate to see people comparing an FI with a stock Z. That just makes no sense to me. Throw an APS (or insert your favorite FI here) TT on it and you will be blowing people away.

If it were perfect in stock, there would not be any of these aftermarket folks. Would that be any fun? Just my 2 cents.

Like a couple people aready said. It's very dyno defrent There are at least 6 major types used, and between those six a multitude of software each could use. So many variables that comparing two dyno's in different shops is a very, very difficult thing to do. Don't be discorraged. If you really want to know what your HP is like go to a 1/4 mile track and run your car as a baseline. MPH in the 1/4 is a great indicator of your actual HP.

If you want cheap HP go buy a Mustang or some other domestic. A car is more then just it's engine.

Unless you own one of these and get the XEDE modification for $1300.
353hp/405tq @ the wheels....
That's 400+hp and 450+tq at the flywheel.

These kits will ship at the end of this month.

That's why I got rid of my 03 6MT G35 and got my 07 335i 6MT Sedan. Only option I got was the sports package for $38,500 + tax/lic/fees so it's not that much more than the new G35 when you consider the free maintanence. Even with almost no options, you still get the Logic 7 sound system and adaptive Xenons, power everything and sunroof so it's not that bad... The premium package and all the other options is not worth it....
