blah, i just baught a purolater filter and royal purple 5w30 here in boston, ma for my z.
Good choice or should i return it and get something else like the amsoil? If amsoil, where and what kind should i get? How about the filter?

The 10W-30 looked good for Chromium wear and Lead wear. I like the RP 10W-30 results in regards to Lead wear. Low Lead wear is my personal emphasis when looking at an oil's ability to protect, as it is an indication of how well it has protected the bearings. The Chromium, Aluminum, and Iron are my next emphasised wear indicators. Followed by Copper and the rest of the trace elements. In this regard, the RP 10W-30 looks great for lead and Chromium, but worse than average for everything else. So overall, RP 10W-30 is just an "ok" oil in my book and I see nothing specail or outstanding with it on the whole. There are other oils that have shown much better results with similiar mileage, but I wouldn't say the 10W-30 is a bad oil to use. I am still hesitant to recommend RP's 5W-30 until a decent average can be made from more than just the one sample sent to me.

Amsoil TSO 0W-30 posted on BITOG. Again, one of the best oils I've seen for an extended drain interval. Very low wear, especially when you look at how long it was used with no added oil. It has been added to the average results on the first page.
Most RECENT UOA (LEFT-most numbers):
Oil: Amsoil S2K 0W30
Oil Filter: Amsoil EaO12
Air Filter: Amsoil EaA in stock airbox
OCI: 7500 miles
Total Miles on vehicle: 37,500 miles

Edit: this oil is one of the best looking oils tested so far. I'm actually amazed at the lack of any Lead in the sample. Everything else is below the mean average of all the oil samples taken. Schaeffer's is a Group3 oil with extensive use of additive packages. A small amount of ZDDP and high Moly are the two that really come out in this test. For an explanation of additive packages see the first page of this thread, post #9. This combination works well, based on the tests.

Thanks to Gurgen for this one. A Mobil1 0W-40 UOA done a TT G35 Sedan. The oil was used for one trackday and went a full service interval without any oil added. The numbers look average to better than average, not stellar. The only exception would be the iron is high. This has been a common find in both the TT UOA's done so far. Where this oil really starts to shine is when you look and see the engine itself has less than 9k miles on it. The oil is still in the break-in stage. While iron is high, it is a good testament to this oil that the wear and viscosity numbers look just better than average for NA, daily-driven VQ35's and Gurgen is running a TT system on his. I expect his next few UOA's will continue to get even better when the engine finishes it's break-in. Most engines stop showing break-in wear around 15-20k miles. By comparison, look at how much better the 0W-40 performed than the 5W-30 in another TT engine that went only half the mileage.

Thanks for putting this together as it is helpful to compare the averages. Any chance EVERYONE could also provide a bit of information as to how the car was used (like the post above)? For instance:
daily driven only
daily driven + 2 autox
driven 1-2x/week + 3 track days
I would think 6 months & 3000 miles of casual daily driving would be easier on the oil than 3 month & 1000 miles of track and autox events.
I think it would be useful to at least have some sort of idea as to the conditions faced by the oil.

Awesome post!
While I still have 60 quarts of GC stock piled, my current fill is Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30. So far not too happy with it... burned about 1/2 quart which GC never did even under track conditions and engine seems louder at idle (lifter tap?).

I fell asleep after my last post... I posted my running UOW in my signature.
Our group switched to Amsoil 0W-30 in April, my next UOW should have a contrast against the prior 3 fluid swaps with RP 10w-30 at over 15k mi.
