Cusco RS 1.5 way LSD on it's way.

Well, I knew I needed a stronger diff for my track days in talking to one of the major 350Z race teams. I went with the Cusco 1.5 Way RS. I went 1.5 way because it gives some stabilization entering corners, but not so much that it will fight you. I went with the RS even though it costs more, because of the smoother engagement over the MZ.

I ordered from Adam at Z1. Got me a great deal and had it ready to go. That I like. Full write up to follow.

who are you gonna have install it?

Performance Nissan of course! They are a very Z friendly dealer; very interested in performance and the customer, and not giving you a hassle if a problem comes up.

Whats the difference between 1 way, 1.5 way and 2 way LSDs?

raceboy Sep 18, 2003 09:51 PM

1 way only locks on accel, 1.5 way locks fully on accel and partial on decel, 2 way locks fully on both. Locking on decell stabilizes the car on corner entry, especially as you unweight the rear of the car under trail braking, but it also causes the car to not want to turn. Many people find the 1.5 way to be the best compromise.

I see, thanks!

looks like about .5 diff huh :icon4:

hehe..but seriously
its been said that.....1-Way L.S.D. means that only when the accelerator is stepped on, the L.S.D. comes into use. The 1.5-Way L.S.D. means that when the car is braking, there is little L.S.D. effect and the 2-Way L.S.D. means that either when the car is accelerating or braking the L.S.D. is always active.

mine is 2 way and virtually been on the car right since the get go..I love it and definately one of the biggest improvements in mods I can think of..it makes the car really hug the turns underpower but it also creates oversteer its not overly agressive though for street its set at 60% locking

do you get a clunking sound at low speeds? i've heard 2-ways do this

it would be nice to get a ride in your car to see ;)

yes there is a "slight" clunking noise but nothing to worry about or cheap sounding..keep in mind i put it on when i had stock 17 rims and tires not only was it a bit overpowering for that setup but it made more noise then at low speed turns..since the change to bigger wheels and tires..the sound went away virtually but you can still hear it when its cold if you listen for it..hope that helps..

PS: give me a ride in yours too i want to see what the cams/headers are doing in yours.

Sounds like it sould be sweet. Keep us posted on your track testing.

Thats the nice thing about the one Steve got - no clunks due to the spring loaded design of the diff. The MZ version on the other hand tends to be a bit louder as well.

I think he is going to be really happy with it :)
