(Transmission) Dealer screwing me?? help please!!

So I went to look at an 07 touring, beautiful car, black with frost interior... nearly about to buy it but on the over night test drive i noticed between second and third gear (automatic) there was a thumping type sound. It was kind of hard to notice, but the dealer keeps wanting us to make an offer because it has a warranty. That's great and all but I 'aint buying a car if it's broke!

Any idea as to what it might be? They said they'd fix it but i feel like they're just gonna dump it off on some yahoo.

Thanks!!

Don't buy it or tell them you'll buy it if they fix the noise. "Because it has a warranty", they shouldn't have a problem fixing it right?

that's what I was thinking!! we're not even considering until it's fixed. so we'll see...

I have worked for a dealership for the past four years. If we get a trade-in that is under warranty we will fix it before we ever put it on the lot for sale. So, I would get them to fix it then work a deal.

G353535 05-30-2010 08:50 PM

I think that is normal.

My G makes that sound and my friend's G makes that sound too

davidv 05-30-2010 08:54 PM

How is the dealer screwing you? Did he put a gun to your head?

Z-ator 05-30-2010 10:30 PM

+1 sound is normal. my Z does the same thing going from 2nd to 3rd...

dirtbikr 05-30-2010 11:03 PM

Yeah, 2nd to 3rd is the nicest transition in this gearbox. Until you put the valvebody upgrade in, then they're all tits :)

well technically they're not yet, but I sometimes get the feeling that they just want my money. haha

hmmm it seems kind of weird that it's supposed to do that. It's not a sound that sounds good.

they cant cover it under a nissan warranty if its not titled to someone.
and they wont fix it due to this because they'll have to pay for it out of pocket. so they'll find some chump to buy it without fixing it

This is not correct, unless NC law is different from GA law. I spent some time helping my brothers with his used car dealership and took cars in for warranty repairs all the time. No one ever asked me whose name the car was in, even though it had a dealer tag on it.

Well duh.

A car does not have to be registered to be covered under warranty. Worked at several dealerships Before that car is ever put in available inventory it has to be fixed of all defects minus minor issues.

treee fitty 06-01-2010 07:53 PM

if it helps it has 62k on it, out of nissan warranty, and it's from a ford dealership

Sooo why would they tell you it has a warranty?

Reality350 06-02-2010 06:34 AM

Don't cheap out.. Pay a little more $ up front and save yourself the headaches down the road..
(Although I don't understand why you would still be interested in this vehicle, after having driven it and noticing the shift problem....)

Blazemaster 06-02-2010 11:27 AM

this thread is not making any sense whatsoever.

the ford dealer had a warranty on it. I have given up on this vehicle because the dealer won't get back to me.
