Question on removal of rear Diff on the z

According to the service manual you must replace the bolts, washers and nuts for drive axles and propeller shaft every time you remove them! So I am getting ready to remove my rear end to swap gears and was wondering if any one here has done this and reused the old bolts?

I reused them when I swapped out my open diff for a quaife LSD. I really dont think you need to but that's just my .02

Cool how long ago did you remove yours or how many miles have you put on it since you did it?

I installed it this summer and I'd say I have over 3500 miles on it since then. I took it out to Zdayz in NC in the mountains/dragons tail and I came from MN which was a long haul no problems

cool maybe i will just reuse them then

Some high-strength bolts which have been fully tightened can be used only once. Follow the manual, or you risk them failing.

Your call. You could never have issues with them, they could fail immediately, or they could fail down the road when you're out on a trip. New bolts can also fail randomly as well, though less likely (in theory).

Perhaps change the question to a poll and ask how many people reused those bolts? /shrug just my 2 cents

I've had my diff out 3 times now. First time was 3 years and 70k miles ago. Still havn't swapped out those bolts. But i did replace my ring gear bolts when i did the diff swap.

make sure you use loctite when dealing with anything that is rotating.
