Torque wrench?
Lost my torque wrench (like 5 years ago) and i'm looking to buy something good for occasional work.
plus i need to retighten my plenum, as it looks like it's leaking. what's a good bang for the buck wrench? i've seen couple on amazon.com, but i'm not sure if 960 in/lb is something i wanna get. not sure of the brands too, cuz we don't have those brands here locally and i'm not sure what's good. appreciated. max |
You actually need two. A small one that measures in IN-LBS (20-250 for example) for small bolts such as the plenum bolts and a large one that measures FT-LBS (25-200 for example) for big ones like lug nuts, suspension, etc.
I'm sure you don't have Harbor-Freight in Bahrain but they have some fairly cheap ones for light duty use. Consider some of the Sears/Craftsman models or you can spend the big bucks for a Snap-On professional quality. |
Harbor freight - $20 bucks......see if they will ship to you???
1/4" for plenum work - Item 2696: http://www.harborfreight.com/1-4-qua...ench-2696.html 1/2" for lug nuts, etc - ITEM 239-1VGA: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...Itemnumber=239 Had them checked for accuracy at Boeing Aerospace Calibration dept and they are accurate and hold up. had them checked multiple times over the years.... if you sign up at HF dot com you can get emails with coupons etc....Google their coupons too and you can find many that you can print out. -J |
ya, for a plenum install, best thing to do is install it all by hand using a nut driver.......then finish off with the torque wrench to ensure accurate torque measurements..

exactly what i was gonna say. Harbor freight all the way. I would also search for their 20% off coupon on any item in the store.

I've got craftsman and i love it. To tighten the plenum, you need a wrench that goes to around 100 inch pounds if i remember correctly.

Be careful going to HF - place is addicting... go in thinkin your pay 20 bucks for something...walk out with 80 bucks worth of tools...lol |
The last torque wrench I wanted to buy was a snap-on. Opened up the case to look at it and it was already loaded to 40ft/lbs! Some real jerks workin at snap on factories lately.

Nice links. Getting those 2 for sure.

Quick question regarding: http://www.harborfreight.com/1-4-qua...ench-2696.html
Anyone know where I can buy an extender for this? |
Harbor Freight FTW...i. I used to buy Snap on torque wrenches all the time (for work, and home), but they just kept breaking, so I have bought some from Harbor Freight and they have not broke once. Knock on wood
