UD Pulleys/Technosquare/Dyno mod's

So we installed my Unorthodox Racing Under Drive Pulleys, took the car to Technosquare for tuning and ran over to the dyno. Most of you now my car, but for those who don't we have CAI, Cams, Headers, Cat's, Exhaust, Flywheel as far as the engine is concerned. The pulleys only added 1.2hp to my car, but where the gains came in was the over all power curve was 10hp higher all the way to the top. Torque went from 248 to 257. As far as the Technosquare thing..... well, I need to call them today and see if we can try something different. The lean/rich curve was EXACTLY the same as previous dynos and I'm told is costing me the H.P. to get me over the 270 mark. When Jason comes in this morning I'll have him take a picture on the Dyno gragh and post it here. On another note the belt squeel on start up this morning was enough to wake the neighbors...... I hope this isn't normal and we'll check into it today.

Jason's in!

:D

BLUE is the dyno run with the UD Pully's.
Green is Max run from without the pully's.

Looking ayt the dyno graph, you made more than 1.2hp with the pullys. The green line has a jump at the end when throttle was shutting or the limiter kicked in. So you actually made less hp than the green numbers show. Looks like you made 5-7hp at peak with the pulleys, and the overall curve is great.

Good point... I didn't pay much attention to that before. Well I guess the pulleys are well worth the money. Time to stock up and start selling them.:D

Jason,

Did you take a pull with just the ECU? I have a similar setup (minus headers) and my next item is the Techno flash. Was wondering if its worth it? I think you said that it showed little gains hp wise and that the A/F curve was the same?

The run in GREEN is Pre-Ecu. the run in BLUE is POST ecu.

The BLUE run also includes the UD pully's.

You will notice that the A/F is almost Identical in the Green and Blue.

seems like Tadashi leaned it out alot on the midrange...

did u tell him the specific A/F ratio you wanted? but you definately made alot more HP on the low end..

zillinois Nov 13, 2003 07:17 AM

Thanks, the blue run is definitely leaner at lower rpms. Not gaining much elsewhere. Is that the correct interpretation?

Yea, and look at the bottom of the torque curve. Looks like torque comes in much faster and is greatly improved.

Did you perform and ECU reset, and how long did you drive with the pulleys before your last pull?

I'm pulling my CAI out tonight so I can dyno bone stock on Friday (tomorrow) and put in my UR pulleys this weekend, dyno'ing again on Monday.

If I get numbers like this I'll be ecstatic.

The pulleys were installed, drove 40 miles to Technosquare then 30 miles to dyno. I gave Tadashi the original dyno chart so he could see what needed to be done. On a side note, when Tadashi at Tecnosquare test drove my car, he was gone a long time. When he came back he mentioned he got pulled over by the local law.:D

Chebosto Nov 13, 2003 08:13 AM

Yea.. he was in Vegas for SEMA-- his AE86 broke down and he was marooned in vegas until he could get a replacement part--

he had to tune Maxhax's ATI procharger Z right after you too--

humm....this is not the news i was hoping for concerning the TS ecu jeff. you dynoed almost the same as you did on the dyno day for whp, but wtq is improved and i'm guessing thats from the pullies mostly. hope you get it worked out because i'm in need of ecu work, but only if its worth it.

on another note, i like the cats:).....definitely feel a power increase. thanks jeff.

A suggestion : Either swap to a stock computer or put the stock pullies back on, and dyno again. Hard for people to get a feel for what each mod is capable of.

I'm not as concerned with the H.P. numbers as I am with the Air/Fuel numbers. I need to get these in line and I'll run another dyno test again.

Jason

Do you have a goal for A/F curve or what are you going
to have changed? Also, what octane are you running?

Thanks

2003z Nov 13, 2003 10:44 AM

just curious, how are you measuring the a/f ratio? I had an o2 bung installed before my cats, and my a/f curve is straight at ~12.8 all the way to redline with the ecu. I'm not as modded like you, but it should be consistent.

One thing for sure, whatever the problem, they will fix it. We tried 3 different ecu's in mine, shipping back and forth across the country before we figured out it was my sloppy local muffler shop exhaust causing my problems.

zxsaint Nov 13, 2003 03:19 PM

Interesting... your blue HP line is almost identical to mine up to 5k. After that theres a progressive gain of about 10hp.

Your torque line is the same except from 3.5k to 5k theres a sudden burst!

I think once your ECU program issues have been resolved, 280 is right around the corner.

where's the plenum and what type are you going to get? I do not want to lose my strut bar!

At the moment I'm not ready to change out the plenum. I'm not convinced that it makes any difference....... BUT, I said the exact same thing about the pulleys and you guys proved me wrong, so who knows what's next on the mod list. We have a few other things up our sleeve for the future. :D
