Over Rev Valve Float?
Took my Z back to IL from CO over the summer. The extra 45 Ponies to the wheels makes a BIG difference.
Bottomline showing off a couple of times I blew right through redline(happens much faster) apparently the rev limiter isn't working becuase I hit 7200 maybe 7500 and it never cut the fuel, I just happened to look down and  Any way, everything seems fine, runs fine, no noticeable fuel consumption difference or power change, and no noise changes noticed except when I go on some freeway entrance ramp with walls on either side so I can hear the exhaust better with the top down, above 6,000 RPM's I hear a distinct and rapid pfft..pfft...pfft...pfft coming from the exhaust. I don't know what the signs are for bent valves or floating valves. And if so how screwed am I? Thanks |
Probably an exhaust leak

Redline on a car generally isn't the absolute highest the engine can rev. just the highest it can do safely and consistently.
the noise you hear could be an exhaust leak, a brake noise or any other combination of things moving around. if you had a valve float, you would have bent it with a piston, and your car would idle like crap(I've bent a valve or 2 in my day). |
