Throttle control motor relay constantly pulling power
 

So I have recently run into this problem where if I don't start my z in a few days the battery is ran completely dry.

Recent things done to the car was a fuel return system but that is nothing electrical by any means.

Also boosted the car about three months ago butthe problem never showed until the return system was installed

The battery is only 3 months old so I did a little investigating

So I did some searching in the relays and the throttle control motor is constantly pulling power.

I haven't messed with the throttle body at all or the motor

Unfortunately I am awful at electrical issues so I figured I'd post on here and see if anyone had any ideas ...

Is it pulling power because the relay is stuck, or is the relay coil actually energized?

The former would be a bad relay. The latter would require more investigation to determine what's wrong.

Remove the relay, see if there is power on the coil terminal, and go from there.

I removed the relay and used the volt meter on the terminals there is power coming from the terminal bout a half amp

You need to get a service manual for your car to find out where the power to the relay is coming from and where it's supposed to be turned off when the car isn't running.

Could you hear the relay open (soft click sound) when you removed it from the socket?

Yeah I could hear it click on and off

Looking at section EC of the 2007 service manual, the relay plugs into the IPDM/ER. One side of the relay coil gets power from the battery through a 15-amp fuse, and the other side is connected to the ECM. It looks like the ECM completes the path to ground when the engine is running, and that closes the relay to provide power for the throttle motor.

You probably have something wrong with the ECM itself or there may be a short in the wiring that's grounding the wire from the relay to the ECM.

You need to get someone who's good at troubleshooting to check the service manual for your year car. They should be able to follow the diagnostic steps in the service manual to isolate the problem.

As a temporary fix, you could remove the fuse or the relay to save the battery when you're not going to be driving the car.

Well the car should be up at sound performance to have the proefi install within the next two months

I have pretty the same one and cant find what cause it (despite my two weeks fight).

It is only with haltech attached, with OEM all is normal.

Yup. Haltech behaves like that. Already informed them about 6 months ago, but they are not much interested in fixing this.

Workaround tip: rewire relay with ignition key activated + for relay impulse.

Also, it seems that only EU market vehicles are on impact.
