2005 Nissan Frontier/Pathfinder 4.0L VQ-series Who needs a 3.8L $12,000 stroker kit when you can get one of these. :D Victor  |
What's the compression on that motor? And the weight?
|
Sweeeeet, how much power does it make??
Can you say 400z??? hehe |
hmmm.. maybe some high compression pistons and we are lookin good!

the increase in displacement is probably due to a longer stroke (equals lower redline) instead of being a different (thus potentially heavier) block since it is still a VQ. Might be bored too. Of course, I don't know any of this for sure...
|
Tis stroked according to PhoenixINX. Redline is 6250.
All information will be revealed tomorrow. |
How much modification do you think it would take to get one of those on a 350?
Chris. |
bets
I'll bet any money thats the basis for the next Z. And I'll also bet that it will be introduced at an autoshow (prob Detroit) in 2 years from now,, after the current 350Z sales have died down.
|
Damn, that would be sweet to have all that torgue from a stroked 3.5. Imagine the launch out of a corner with all the chassis we already have! Wouldn't hurt the 60 foot times either! And if it is a 3.5, should be able to drop it in without a lot of trouble!??
|
PS. I'll take down low torque over gutless vtech power any second of the week!!
|
Direct replacement.
Stroked and slightly bored version of the VQ35. Won't rev as high, so I am going to doubt we'll see this in a Z car. Nonetheless it would be a fun engine to build if you did not mind sacrificing a high revving vehicle. |
Wow, i could already imagine.

WE WANT TORQUE! WE WANT TORQUE! WE WANT TOR....

Does the VQ35 redline @ 6600 in all the vehicles it is used in, or does it have a lower redline in some of them (like maybe the quest or something).
I wouldn't be surprised if the 4.0 liter version could be made to rev to the same levels in a sportscar version if it made sense to do so. Since this 4.0 is used in trucks, I'm guessing the torque curve would be totally wrong for a sportscar anyway, and you'd need some new cams to really get the power at higher RPMS. It would be really interesting if the NISMO cams would fit on this 4.0 engine. -D'oh! |
if its the same block; why swap the whole engine? just get the internals of it and have them balanced and polished; then swap them into the 3.5VQ. probably be able to raise the redline over 6600 if its balanced.
of course Im not familiar with this stuff; so I might be totally wrong. just a thought. I donno whats needed; if you took the crank; connecting rods and pistons; but kept the cams the same? what would happen? |

Althought it may have a lower redline, im sure that if you got some forged connecting rods, stiffer valve springs, and balanced and knife-edged the crank, it would be good for at least 7000rpm, seeing as how the ts reflash for a Z brings it up to 7.2k, i believe.

Actually, I heard the issue at higher RPMs is the fuel pump.
