Engine Swap from 3.5l to a smaller engine?

Hi is it possible to buy a 350z and engine swap it with a 2 liter? or a diesle? as i am a young driver in the uk 18, and insurance is rediculusly expensive. but i would like a 350z because it looks nice and sporty but i dont want it for speed, so is it possible?

Many thanks

Chris

Of course you can, the fact is it's not worth it though. What would you run? SR20?

Better off just getting a car with a smaller engine to begin with. Swapping to an engine like that would also kill the resale value.

you could always buy a rolling shell and put a smaller engine into it if that's what you really want
Edit: but a diesel 350z :bowrofl:

Will the insurance companies give you a lower rate if you downgrade engines? I highly doubt it cause its still considered a sports car, also you run more of a risk of engine failure, or a catastrophic mistake at high speeds when you start screwing with the original factory design........just get a smaller car

Anything is possible if you have the money(pounds).
Don't know about UK insurance.I'd wager here it would make
no difference what you have under the hood.
If you have the budget and creativity, why not figure out how to make your
Z a hybrid.Sure would be great to do something like Jaguar is doing using an electric
motor for a "boost".
Go for it!

Thanks guys for the posotive feedback, at the moment i have a 2000 golf TDi, but it looks kinda boring and i just wanted something that would turn heads, ive always liked the nissan 350z not for power but just because it looks different, i know you all say get a smaller car, but they all dont appeal to me :/

i would buy a 1l car if it looks good, but sadly, small engine, cheap and ugly car is usually the case.

However i also suppose you are right, that will the insurance even lower it?

Im thinking about moving to america/Canada as i have family there and life seems to be cheaper aswell :)

Do you really want a car THAT bad that you want to swap a smaller engine into it JUST for insurance reasons??? I can honestly say this will be one of those things when you are in your mid 20s or 30s, look back and say, "What the hell was I thinking?"

I think at this point, it would be easier to get a better paying job to pay for the insurance....

Insurance companies know what are in the cars based off of the VIN #. I don't know if they care, but I would imagine you would have to call in and tell then what you have under the hood, they will have to send an inspector to see for themselves....even then, i don't think it will make any difference at all... Even IF they did honor it and lower your rates, how much do you think they would possibly lower it.... maybe $25usd per month? Is that worth all the trouble to downgrade your car and bring in definite reliability issues?

life is ( gulp) differnt in places outside the US.. i know.. hard to believe right? lol.

Gas is extremely expensive in GB/UK and the popular cars are jsut the like the OP states, GOlfs and other cars..deisels are popular as well.

While i still think its not within reason for the OP to swap to a more gutless engine simply due to cost prohibitedness.. the premise is sound for a guy living in the UK. So my diagnosis is that he is in fact ... not crazy lol.
If he were living here in the US and trying to do this, thats another story lol.

If you can't afford the Z right now how exactly do you expect to pay for a complicated engine swap?

OP you should stick to what you already have or look into getting a 240SX instead
