help with clutch!!!!
Hi, i bought my car aprox. april 2011 used 50,000 miles. Right now with almost 72,xxx the car is in it's clutch final stages, so i'm trying to look one.
Question is: which one? My car is almost stock, it has a AEM cai, taylor helix powertower spacer, megan high flow cats, and custom made 2" 3/4 or 2" 1/2 (dont remember) separate per bank straight thru exhaust with greddy tips. Other than that it's technically oem, few people said the clutch is stock so that's the reason of the wear maybe. What brand, clutch type should i use? My car is 100% daily driver, 70% highway use, maybe 1 or 2 punch to the floor in the highway with friends, so what? I was seeing in the vendor section one seller has the JWT but also the flywheel and another one with south bend clutch SS both at around $745, the car is daily use but im looking foward to performance-wise. I'm looking to stay on n/a, few more bolt-ons mods and maybe a ecu reflash, uprev of any sort, (but on the future). I'm giving serious thoughts to the kinetix SSV as near in the future. So which clutch type, brand should be recomended, organic, racing, stock flywheel, stock pressure plate??? :confused: Any help appreciated, thanks in advance... :thumbup: |
I would personally go with either OEM or JWT.
Both are a safe bet and you will like the JWT for sure, I've heard nothing but good reviews. |

I'm in the same situation as you. Got mine almost exactly a year ago with a clutch that felt like ass. I knew I'd have to get one and now it's on it's last leg.
I went with the South Bend Stage 2, South Bend 19LB flywheel, ZSpeed slave and some Motul gear oil from Joe @ Zspeed. I chose the 19LB because I didn't want all the chatter and rattles associated with a super lightweight flywheel. If you can live with it, either South Bend SS or JWT are great options with plenty of feedback. |
OEM style clutch, no need to waste money on stronger clutches NA.

JWT or the ACT streetlite. For warning, the clutch chatter is pretty harsh and takes some getting used to. But boy does it grab like a BEAST.

I would pick jwt anyday over act but that's my opinion and 745 isn't bad at all just make sure whatever you go with you break in the clutch properly, if not you will be changing it with in a year or 2

The JWT package comes with a lightweight flywheel and will chatter more than the OEM dual mass flywheel. Assuming the ACT is similar. I've had the Jwt before and didn't notice it much.
As for the break-in each brand should have their own break-in instructions once you replace the clutch components. Another thing to look at is the master cylinder rod. there is a decent amount of adjustment you can do to change the feel of the clutch to your liking once you get the new clutch in...or get the RJM clutch pedal bracket while you were at it. will change your world. |

Unless you have some special need or requirement, the Z’s OEM clutch is excellent. It grabs well and quickly without vibration. It won’t perform to the level of a JWT assembly, but the OEM is much easier to operate with little sacrifice in performance (easier to drive and more comfortable)
I don’t have a great deal of experience with aftermarket clutch assemblies, but most are lightweight requiring precision and effort during operation to avoid “chattering.” The aftermarket products can also stress your drive train eventually resulting in performance degeneration and additional cost$. --Spike |
So for the few bolt-ons that I have or want to put, the OEM would be the most balanced combination in terms of comfort / grip??

Yeah, they are a vendor on here, and I always like to support vendors. I mainly buy through Z1 Motorsports, but it's the same price, so whichever one.

I'll second the suggestion for the Southbend setup. I went with their DXD Stage 1 clutch and flywheel combo. ANY flywheel that is not dual mass will chatter to some degree. The Southbend really is minimal and for me, only noticable when loaded with the rpms too low, for example taking of gently from a stop in second gear instead of first.
As far as Z1 goes, I'll recommend them any day and twice on Sunday. I've never had to deal with their "customer service" per se, but only because everything I've ever ordered from them was at a great price, came quicker than expected, and worked flawlessly. |
