04 Murano rear end in 03 350z
 

I bought my 03 350z with a salvaged title and it has a junk yard 2004 murano rear end in it, has anyone heard of anyone else doing this? It is the base model Z and the only tire that spins is the rear left wheel, could this be because of the murano rear end or do all base model Zs do that? please let me know thanks :dunno:

All base models spin one-wheel wonders...

ok thank you, im gonna look into getting a LSD, if I do will I be able to have the Traction Control System option of turning it on and off like every other Z except the base?

Put the wheels in the air and spin one wheel. If the other wheel spins in the same direction, you have a LSD. If it spins the opposite way, you have an open diff.

Never heard of a Murano diff in a Z. How do you know it has that? Previous owner told you?

No idea on the Mirano rear but Nissan uses the same rear in many vehicles. Obviously it would be an AWD version cause the others are fwd

The Murano uses what is primarily an FWD drivetrain. The AWD versions use a prop shaft to transfer more power to the rear wheels, but I doubt any of that would have been transferred over. While some might have to hide their eyes, I say BS until the OP posts up a picture of this crazy pairing. If true, I hope he didn't pay much for it...

That's not possible. Murano rear end is a electronic clutch type that only engages when the front wheels start to slip or the AWD switch is turned on

Hate to tell you this, but that's NOT a rear end. A rear end usually means either a differential or a rear clip. The part pictured is neither and looks like the rear subframe with some erroneous writing on it. You may be unaware of it, but the Z uses a carbonfiber driveshaft, so why do you think this one has a junkyard version?

Just f.y.i., the factory driveshaft carbon fiber reinforced steel driveshaft, not full carbonfiber. Those carbon fiber ones from driveshaft shop run almost a grand.

Seen pics of a factory driveshaft that split, it's full carbon. It's also about $1600 from Nissan

OEM is full carbon, seen a few snapped oe ds pics over the years.

Its plastic reinforced with carbon fiber, not steel, thats why it looked like full carbon fiber.

In any case, the Z's driveshaft is lighter, with lower rotational mass and parasitic drag. It's a high performance part on a volume produced sportscar. No, it doesn't have the shiny finish that a custom built CF driveshaft might have, but it's impressive nonetheless. I bet the OP mistook this part for a "junkyard driveshaft".
