clutch rattle at idle - SORRY if I'm repeating!
 

...Hi all; My first post here (I'm in Australia).

SO SORRY if you regulars think 'OH NO, NOT AGAIN' but searching hasn't found me an exact replica situation - Please forgive me and point me to the link if there is...

Took delivery of my 'new' 2003 Z33 'Track edition' (Right hand drive of course over here) 3 days ago - Notice on night one when driven into the garage for it's first sleep, the very same 'noisy at idle with clutch pedal OUT, but disappears when clutch depressed (as in, pushed down to floor, not as in sad mood!) :P

Thought it was for sure a throwout bearing, but googling next day (and logic) said from about 50 results I read, 'it's normal' and 'noise STILL there after I got bearing replaced'

...Of COURSE when you nut it out - IF it was a throwout bearing, it'd only be present when clutch pushed IN!

SO; looks like (happily, tho shocked) it IS 'normal'
Service manual suggests changing gearbox oil (as one answer) so I'll DO that anyway, but I don't expect a fix..

Most certainly wouldn't have expected that in a fairly modern car.

PS; LOVE the car - I swapped my 1985 Corvette for it!
(so now only have one corvette left for sale - a showcar, full custom..BUT; I digress)

Only response on Ozzy Z forum so far is:
"On a 2003 it's likely to be a worn input shaft bearing at the very least, if not a worn out gearbox"

- Would prefer to read again that it's 'normal'!

Supposedly has dual plate clutch and rebuilt at 60,000kms (37000 miles).
Car has 180,000kms (111850 miles) on it.

Normal clutch chatter even with oem components. My 07 with 30k miles chatter loud all oem parts

This is what I MOSt commonly found with my initial googling.

Also found people had replaced this or that and still had the noise - even that Nissan themselves had said it's 'normal' (ODD but normal)

I'd not be crazy happy about it if I'd bought it NEW!

My 07 w/ 13k miles chatters as well.

That's more reassuring

The previous owner SAID the engine / gearbox were rebuilt at 80,000km (50,000 Miles) by a fastidious owner - Honestly; it is SUCH a good gearbox - One of the best I've used and I've driven an awfully big variety of vehicles in my life...

My 03 has 130k on it and has been female owned (not beat to death, but driven as a daily driver without "attention revving" and track days) the tranny has a new clutch in it(PO had install papers to prove) and it still chatters, I heard it at first and stopped driving it for 2 days right after I got it because my OCD wouldn't let me. Then i read the same thing you did and my fears were relieved. A worn out gearbox would also suggest the shifting would not be smooth or at least not as quiet as well.

...Like I said; my gearbox is smooth as silk, NO slop in shifter at all - One of THE best if not THE best manual changes I've ever used. :-)

I have serious doubts about it being 'worn out'.
