Which Clutch?

My 2004 100k miles needs a new clutch.
I'm getting some slipping when accelerating and shifting hard.
Only street use with no mods.
Would prefer a bit of an upgrade from OEM.
Any suggestions (I usually shop at RockAuto)

Thanks AP

JWT, perfect OEM replacement in my opinion.

A lot of people including myself use the JWT clutch and for good reason. It's a good upgrade while not being TOO expensive. I would recommend the entire clutch & lightweight flywheel kit as it will help acceleration with a lighter flywheel however you will have louder flywheel chatter while in neutral and low rpms in gear. I don't mind however as I put performance first over comfort when deciding on parts. However since you said street use with no mods you might not be entirely sold on the lightweight flywheel. It's just a suggestion.

yup...JWT clutch & flywheel ... best of all worlds

I'd go with Nismo.....but I'm complicated lol

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm looking at the JWT but not yet sold on it because of the chatter issue.I see you can get it with the heavier flywheel though, which is supposed to be quieter.

JWT will not chatter, it is OEM feel with increased clamp force. You will not be disappointed. I have used them on Frontiers, Sentras, and 350Zs. The Frontier was a normal daily driver for a middle aged friend that had destroyed two OEM clutches in 60k miles. They love the JWT and have not had any issues in nearly 8 years with it installed.

Did you only install the JWT clutch or did you do both the clutch and lighter flywheel?

I've never heard anyone say that haven't gotten chatter with the JWT 14 lb flywheel, so your post would make sense if you only did the clutch and kept the dual mass OEM flywheel. If you did do both, what's the secret?

At 100k miles, I wouldn't entirely trust the dual mass flywheel. When I changed out my clutch at 90k, I checked the flywheel and it had loads of play. Also resurfacing them is a PIA and would also cost some $$$.

I went with a South Bend Stage 2 Quiet Disk and the 19lb flywheel, best of both world imo. A decent pickup in engine response, while the quiet disk really makes a notable difference. It is not completely silent, but neither was the stock one. There is some chatter if you lug at very low RPM, but it really isn't that bad.

Else, just go with a JWT and 26lb flywheel, should be similar in noise to the SB clutch, just cheaper.

Thanks to all who have posted.
I think I will try the JWT with the 26lb flywheel if I can have it shipped to Nova Scotia
without having to re-mortgage my house.
The Z is still working fine, I just have to baby her a little.
Probably gonna do the change in October.
I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again

Installed the new clutch & flywheel Friday morning.
It took 4.5 hours and was a fairly easy job.
Went for a 150 mile country cruise yesterday.
I love the feel of the new set up.
I opted for the Exedy Pro kit with the light weight chromoly flywheel.
I hear a slight noise at idle but no chatter or vibration.
If I can get another 100k I'll be a happy camper.
Gotta go now for a tour along the Bay of Fundy shoreline.

Hey AutoPilot,
Can i ask where you got your clutch kit and what it cost? Fellow Canadian as well find it hard to find clutch kits in Canada.
Cheers
