Default 2003 350Z with a unique problem

Hi guys, long time lurker, first time poster.

i just bought a used high mileage 2003 350z and its throwing a p1078 and p1084 code. Yes i have searched and i know that these codes mean that the exhaust timing sensor needs replacing.

However, here lies the problem :

the Vehicle does NOT have a rev up motor (i checked the front of the engine. looks exactly like a 03-04 motor). so would a 03-04 ECU throw these codes?

this leads me to believe that

A) the previous owner swapped his engine with a vq35de from another nissan (which might have variable valve timing to the exhaust camshaft) and maybe installed that engines ECU (would that work?)

B) he might have installed a 03-04 motor but maybe installed the wrong ecu (05-06)?

I am clueless as to how to proceed and the service engine soon light is annoying the hell out of me.

your help is greatly appreciated folks.

Call the person you bought the car from to get the info, or

Look at the Part Number on ECU, and Block.

You can Call UpRev for the ECU Number, You will have to research to find out about number.

Hope this helps.
