First Oil Change
My Z is about to reach the 1,200 mile mark. I have taken up the RPM band over the last 400 miles but have not pushed it to the max. I would like to know if it is now OK to drive the car as I wish (RED LINE) and should I change the oil first before doing so?
Any help would be appreciated. P.S. What a great car, can't wait to see what it can really do on thursday as I head up Big Bear mountain for the weekend. |
You should be okay to drive how you want SUPPOSEDLY as your break-in is to 1200 and your first SCHEDULED oil change is at around 3700 or so. I would personally change the oil now so as to get all the fresh new chips, etc. out of circulation (of a brand new engine). That is with the premise of going all out on the engine (redlining). Peace of mind, I guess. ;)

You should be running your car to redline long ago. I never wait more than 500 miles to "break in" a car (which is mostly BS anyways) I believe most of this break in is to bed the clutch disk properly and has nothing to do with the engine.

I have been taking it progressivley up the rpm range since 500 miles, occasionaly hiting 5 - 6 thousand. I just wanted to know if it was now ok to rely lay into it and drive like the maniac I usually do. Also, did you change the oil before the recommended 3,750? I asked my service guy who helps run the Z club in San Diego and he said not to worry, just drive it.
