Well, Motors Done here's what I think!!!

First and formost, anyone who does any type of internals on the VQ35 should make sure that they bleed the coolant properly this took us about 2 hours, we finally broke down and used a suction devise that Nissan makes to get the air pocket out...after that she stayed on average at 192, I will be installing the Nismo Thermostat later in the week to get it down a little more.A/F showed 102-103% so totally fine.....ok on to the goods..

We used consult to raise idle 250 RPMS this makes the car idle about 900 ish...the car still has a nice lope to it..it doesnt want to stall, but it doesnt sound like a Z anymore, more like something meaner....The car is much louder than before....the headers really opened up the exhaust....

Down low she feels a little slower (I havent sprayed yet)

But around 4600 RPM all hell breaks loose. (like she now has VTEC :) it pulls hard all the way to red...sounds like a superbike on wide open throttle.

We have now upped the jets to a 150 shot.....and will be dyno ing and tracking the car next week, looking forward to it..

These cams are the most aggressive you can get right now and they are very streetable...very....I think the JWT / Tomie 262 will be a good cam for people to go with that are looking for a little more power in the midrange...

I spoke to Doug at Crawford and he says the car will benefit with a reflashed ECU, but im not sure I want to go with Techno, I would like to hold out for JWT's ECU....

Anywho, I am very happy with the work...I will post the dynos and hopfully run some low 12 second passes on 19s next week, still waiting on drag radials...

anyone have any questions, post em up....

Woa....backup.

What did you do exactly? Did you just install a cam and headers? I might have missed the previous posts on this...but I am totally lost. :)

I assume you are trying for low 12's with the NOS?

Had the same problem when I did the TT install
There is a bleeder valve in the heater hose on the back of the engine.
Couple times opening her up, gets all the air out

Enjoy the new mods

there are more aggressive cams for the VQ - Esprit's. I ahve a set here, but still in my decision making phase about using these or the Tomei's (which I also have) but sounds like a good setup overall!

Very curious to see what the dyno shows!

Technosquare's ecu has been proven for over a year now, i'm not sure what difference it will be if you're waiting for JWT's program... Technos has pretty much the entire maps and controls for everything that you're looking for-

bump to see a dyno chart... nice setup man

Sharif@Forged Apr 23, 2004 06:16 PM

2nd bump for a dyno please :)

Blownaway Apr 23, 2004 07:54 PM

will be on Sunday...Ill post them before sopranos

Nice!
What is your baseline to see the improve of the cams and mods?
My last mod was JWT Cams (I believe they have the highest lift avalible rigth now) and the car feel with little less power on lower RPMS but after 4000 it pulls hard :)
I was talking with Tadashi of Technosquare and he can do the "Limited Spec" for the Z (Rev limiter 7100, Speed limiter and TB Wiresless upgrade) I'm gonna go with that because the peak hp rigth now is on 6450... too high for the 6600 rev limited, the engine can't release all the power ;)

I also put the Consult II to pull up the idle (250 rpms) oh and yes the car sound very different in idle and top end... I like very much :)

btw I put 280 whp & 270 wtq... look Sig for my mods! :)

Blownaway Apr 23, 2004 09:02 PM

247 was my baseline that was with a hotair intake and a cat back exhaust, 14" brakes and 19" wheels, so I guess I am pretty happy with that...I am hoping for around 280 just as yours...are you also spraying your motor?

webcarconnection Apr 23, 2004 09:19 PM

Yes I was, before I put the cams... 390 whp & 407 wtq with 125 shot... I have a little accident with the fuel selenoid and two valves broke and melt the six plugs (Iridium) lucky me I know the owner of the dealer and put everything new under warranty, including the cams :)
rigth now I'm saving up for the TT ;)

Sharif@Forged Apr 24, 2004 10:22 AM

Can I ask why they had to remove your heads to intall the cams? That seems like a lot of labor dollars.

Blownaway Apr 24, 2004 10:25 AM

Because, I was also installing new valve springs and valve retainers with new headers, the tear down to remove the heads was an extra 3 hours of labor, to install the cams, and then take another 8-10 hours for header install from underneath is upsurd. If you are going to install headers and cams, the way we did it is the most efficient.

Street Visionz, Inc. Apr 24, 2004 10:04 PM

Very nice work!!! I never knew JWT made valve springs and retainers for the 350Z, where'd ya get them from? Also what do you mean everything is gasket matched? Sorry i'm such a newbie. :o :D

little_rod Apr 24, 2004 11:12 PM

So how aggressive are the cams?? Sounds like a sweet setup, I bet the sound is second to none. I know if I did it, I would want my cams to make my car lope enough to mix chocolate milk(like the commericals of course, lol).

Blownaway Apr 25, 2004 02:49 PM

the lope is not too bad, you can hear it. SGP racing sells allot of the really sick stuff for the 350Z. you name it they have it...forged pistons, rods, etc....gasket matched means that we matched the opening on the gaskets to the opening on the heads, manifold, etc.....

I dyno'd today. But I am trying to convert the graphs, Ill post them shortly...I definately need a new ECU because the power comes on hard at 6400 and I hit fuel cut at 6600...so I might have to just knuckle up and get the technosquare...

Gotcha...makes sense now.

Word.

:D Good line.

I feel the same way, I love lopey cams with high flow cats.

The sound it makes says, back off. You don't get so many 6 inch single exhaust kids wanting to race you.

Z1 Performance Apr 26, 2004 09:45 AM

I am the opposite - the lope is cool on a car with the goods to back it up =- cam lope on a car that will still only muster a 13 second pass is lame IMHO :)

I'll take the smooth purr of the stock idle thank you - I don't need every modification i do scream "not stock"

Did I read this right - power comes on at 6400?
