any Z's having ENGINE problems with their PULLEYS?-how many miles on it?
I was wondering if any 350z's out there have a significant amount of miles with aftermarket pulleys? Any problems? and how many miles?
The reason i ask is I read a thread on how the g35 technician points 2 g35's engine failures from the pulleys? (something in the lines of that) thanks for the future replies:) :icon4: :icon4: :icon04: |
Feel free to post the thread regarding the G35 engine failures due to pulleys. Thanks.

over 10k with no problems on the 350. had them on a second gen eclipse 100k and no problems on that car too. Take it for what its worth.
|
I think if there were a serious problem pullies plus the turbo would bring it out.
|
Performance Nissan and Z1 Auto both say they're safe. I'm comfortable with that opinion. Esp. Performance Nissan because they are a dealer.
|
No one finds it fishy that everyone that has or has had these pullies on has had no problems whatsoever, but some guy posts some garbage about 2 G35's with problems and we're supposed to be worried?
1) We don't know if the story is true 2) We don't even know how long the pullies were on those cars (We all quickly assumed that the car had 30k miles, so the pulley obviously was on there from day 1...BS!) 3) We have NO proof that the pullies even caused the problem. I've seen more evidence that Hoffa is burried in Giants Stadium! |
over 2000 miles on my UR Crank Pulley.
No Problems at all. |
12K and two track days with crank and UD pullies- no problems.
|
Another thing about the g35 story is; Of course Nissan would blame the underdrive pulleys for an engine failure. Duh.
|
so does anyone have 20k+ miles on their pulley setup that can tell us about their experience
|
You guys need to talk to Mike (mjedens)...
In case you forgot... 295 NA / Tomei 268 cams, and a BIG shot of juice powering his 11 seconds 350Z. Let's just say he IS NOT running the pullies anymore, I'll let him chime in if he wants to share. |
The cams and juice are no problem, those are real mild mods. I definately see how it must be the pulleys.

Hey phoenix,
Please SHARE! You can't start something like that and not finish it! What happened? |
Will pullies wear a motor faster? well, yes but I am pretty sure that the turbo kit I have is doing a heck of alot more damage :). Underdrive pullies have been around for many years and our engine is no different then any other. People make to much of a big deal out of things. Bottum line is that if you mod your car, no matter what, you are reducing engine life. If you want your car to last for ever don't mod it. lets see I have heard of CAI causing engine damage so don't buy that or the rt cats falling apart and some particales some how geting back into the motor so better not buy that either. I bet I can come up with a story for every mod on my car or just about any mod available.

12k miles on, 3k of them on the track, no problems.

Grassroots motorsports did a nice article about a year ago on under drive pullies. In cliff note form, from what I recall that on some cars it actually had a negative effect on performance (causing crank bearing failure over a long peroid of time) and other had a positive effect. IMHO depends on the car. The simple thing would be do a dyno before and after, while watching the knock sensor for additional retarding of the timing.
