can't install the pulley
 

I just bought the UR crank pulley. however i have an automatic which requires some tool to hold the flywheel down or something like that. I really want to get this part installed and i am finally considering going to the dealership. Any suggestions on what i should do? are there any shops in the DC metro area who can do the install?? Thanks in advance.

u need a chain wrench to pull off the crank pulley. dont have a picture but ne auto repair shop will have one.... at least ne decent shop will. have fun if u do it on ur own, be prepared for some scratched up knuckles. trust me i know.

Try going to ur local autoshop like autozone and renting the tool.

If you manage to do it yourself, please post your exerience. I'm going to be attempting this myself soon.

it took me about 1.5 hours with the correct tools and a lift. if u know what u are doing than maybe less b/c i didnt want to remove the fan shroud. the hardest pulley is the crank just like everyone else says due to its location since u have to use some serious tools to get that bolt off. the wat pump is a quickie and the alt takes a little bit of time. i didnt remove the alt like the directions stated b/c the long bolt takes forever to take out and get back in, also the connector is in a wierd spot. the chain wrench is the essential to accomplishing the pulleys, w/o it i wouldnt recommend attempting the task.

Chain wrench??? If the chain wrench I am thinking of in my head the same one you guys are talking about, where would you put the chain to where you would'nt completely tear up anything it touches? Maybe I am just not visualizing it. I just used a 1/2" breaker bar with a 2-3" extension and I stayed about 1/4" away from the fan I believe it was. Taking it off wasn't too bad but putting it on took some serious muscle (thank god I had some roids in my back pocket!!) The bolt has to be retightened to around 150 ft/lbs it seemed like using the 60 degree method.

I posted a long time ago how to change the Pulley on the A5T. It is easier than the 6MT if you know what to do. You do not need any funky tools or a lift.

1.Put the front on some jack stands or use some low profile car ramps.

2. Get under the car and look at the transmission housing on the driver's side. You will find a small plate that you can remove by taking off two bolts.

3. Behind the access plate is the flexplate (flywheel) that has teeth on it. Place a big screwdriver or crowbar into the teeth to prevent the flexplate from turning while you loosen the Crank pulley bolt.

4. Feel the tension in the stock belt so you have a reference of how tight it should be. Remove the crank pulley bolt from under the car with either a larger rachet or a breaker bar, remove the belt after loosening the tensioners and slide the pulley off.

5. After applying some antiseize inside the pulley where it makes contact with the crankshaft, slide the new pulley on. There is a notch that will only allow the pulley to go on when lined up.

6. Tighten the bolt back down to the proper specs with a torque wrench.

7. Remove the breaker bar or screw driver from the flexplate and put the access panel back on.

8. Put the new belt on the same way the stock one was removed and tighten the tensioners until you feel the same amount of tension as you did before removing the stock one.


Very easy install and can be done by yourself in about 30-45 minutes.
