First I just want to thank Sharif (gq_626) for putting the dyno day together. It was alot of fun meeting all of you guys. Mainly I went to see what my car was doing hp/tq wise since doing the vortech install. As you will see, the numbers are kind of low, my best run was 302hp 286tq. The dyno was spitting out consistant low readings all day, but as you can see from my dyno sheet something is going wrong at around 6krpms. I'm probably losing a good 40hp there. Sharif commented that it looks like no tuning was done at that point, but there isn't much to do with the split second box besides pull timing? I guess i'm sort of confused on what that box does. Does it just turn on an aux fuel pump and pull timing according to when/where you tell it? I have the R4 software, I would have downloaded the settings a long time ago but for some reason I can't connect to the box using my laptop. I will try another laptop during the interim, but from looking at this dyno sheet, what do you guys think? The kit was installed by Vortech themselves, maybe they tuned it very conservative? Anyway, can anyone also reccomend a shop in the greater Orange County/ LA area that can tune this box? Or should I attempt to do it myself. Thanks alot guys...

From an initial look you defiantly need to get into the SplitSec box and make some adjustment. To connect your laptop to the system you need a piece of software that converts Serial to USB. Once it is installed you should be able to connect to the ECU.

Hm... thats mildly confusing. Converts Serial to USB? Wouldn't that require a piece of hardware? My laptop has a serial port on the rear, no USB (it's sort of old). The software interacts via direct serial link. I have tried both null modem and straight through cables. What exactly does this piece of software do?

Thanks!

(mind sending me your .mdb file as well so that I could take a look?)

If you have a serial port then that's what you need. Your graph appears to show that the A/F ratio (which you can tune via the R4 software) is too rich. And it's a LOT too rich above 6000 rpms.

Sorry – My system uses USB connection not Serial. PM my your e-mail address and I will send you my MDB file.

Looks like you just go way too rich at 6000. I think you will have great numbers once you get it tuned.

split s

The guy that tuned my car , started to lean it out at about 5,000 rpm's, that smoothes out that dip .Then he did more at 6,000rpm;s .Im going back to do some more tuning with the A/F and timing this time

I'm thinking this might be a task that I can handle? I guess the first step is downloading my settings from my splitsecond box. I'm still trying to find a laptop that works with it... My question is to the people that have done this.

1. create a new customer file
2. connect to the SS box

Then what? Does it automatically download the settings and save them to the database? I've noticed with other people that after creating new maps and re-downloading them to the SS box you have to change the Output Settings? Or does it download these settings upon connecting. What i'm really asking is, can I just connect, change a few fuel mapping cells, and write it back to the SS box? Or does it not download every setting. Thanks alot guys..
