It's Totalled!!!!!!!!
:icon16:
Well i just heard back from the insurance company that my 350Z is totalled. I was coming around a corner, up near the adirondacks in New York, and there was a deer in the road. I swerved to miss the dumb animal and ended up tagging a guard rail. Needless to say the deer and I survived but the car didn't. It was a daytona blue performance model. I'm absolutely sick about the whole thing. The good news is that insurance is giving me money to get another one. So, I was wondering if I could get some input on the manual versus automatic (triptronic shifter). I had a manual and was curious if the automatic could perform just as good. Any input would be appreciated. :icon16: |
And another Z bites the dust! Sorry to hear about your loss but at least you weren't injured (screw the deer).
I mentioned in another thread that it seems like every day now I read about a 350Z being totalled or involved in a serious accident. I wanted to know if insurance companies have established a risk profile on the 350Z for accidents yet and, if so, how it compares to other cars. |
Too bad about the car. I had a deer ram my car once upon a time in New Jersey.
I have an auto and really enjoy the shift when I want it, but can leave it in auto in traffic. What I have learned is that you anticipate the shift point a bit for best performance Good luck!!!!!!!! |
an auto can dominate on the quarter mile in that it cant screw up which in the long run is priceless and becomes a bigger issue as you get faster and the shifts come more often.
for track racing, the ability to engine brake, and absolute control over gear shifts in corners, and an extra 3-5% hp is always helpful. a PERFECT run in a manual will ussually be faster. anyway, be happy its totalled. better that way. get a brand new one rather than a fixed one. |
Sorry to hear about your car! I guess, look on the bright side . . . my insurance company won't total my Z, so I'm stuck with a 3 week old car w/over $11K in damages (including a bent frame). the OTHER (and more significant) positive, is that the car crumpled instead of your body. Good luck.

lets not forget thet you loose more hp to the ground in an auto!;)

My auto had more hp then most manuals so i dont know if all those sayings are true.

Originally posted by BriGuyMax All I know is that my insurance premium has gone up $600 a year since I got the car 1 year and 8 months ago. And I don't have any accidents, tickets or ANY claims on my policy. They told me it's due to claims of other owners. Because of this I think the risk profile on the Z is probably pretty damn high Who is your insurance company? I went from progressive to Gieco and saved $1000 a year. LOL i love the comercials now. And i have had my car for almost 2 years and my insurance has not gone up. Does not sound right to me. Sorry to hear about your car Studlee. I had the same thing happen to me when i had my 1990 300zx. I tried to miss a dear and hit a guard rail. The insurance company told me that it would of been better for me to hit the damn dear. Because i hit the guard rail insted of the dear my insurance went up and it counted against me. If i would of hit the dear it would not have affected my rate. Oh well, next time i will just aim and floor it lol. Glad you are ok Laterz Aceman |

I'd say be happy they declared the car to be totalled. I had a similar incident with a deer on the pennsylvania turnpike about a year ago in a stratus. deer popped up, swerved, spun, slammed gaurd rail. Its better that its totalled though because you don't want a repaired car when you could get a new one for a few extra bucks :-)

Don't feel too bad. This one was eventually totaled. I waited 6 months for it and had it less than 1. It only had 2000 miles on it.

Just some info on my insurance. I am 24 years old and my Z is a touring edition. I pay roughly $900-950 every 6 months for my insurance with 2 speeding tickets. Doesnt seem to bad to me coonsidering...
|
on the auto vs. 6 speed i would chose 6 speed. I have state farm and have had my Z for a year and a half and the insurance hasn't really changed, it went down like 4 bucks a month. For those of you with other companies what is your deductible and do you get full glass coverage with no deductible and do they pay out with no questions?

Geico is the sports car enthusiasts worst NIGHTMARE. They will drop anyone that they find out has a radar detector... in fact they have subsidized radar and laser enforment equipment and developement both at the manufacturing level and the local jurisdiction level. Latest story is they are offering discounts to drivers willing to put monitors in their cars to confirm they never drive over 75mph. This is just the tip of the iceberg... this company is the "enemy"... I am a capitalist and they are free to do anything they want... BUT they are NEVER going to make ANY money from me :( |
