Out of N/A mod's?????

Well I have ordered my 3.917 gears and they are on the way now.... was waiting for a crush sleeve but decided to try and obtain it myself........ well after this Im not sure what to mod next....... I have stayed away from headers because I would like to go Turbo one day....when it's safe......you know when Rod's stop breaking...:D

Or maybe some nitrous...... but besides that I dont know what to do..... No big idea's poping in my head.......Cam's maybe????? but which one's 264 0r 268???? Im not too conserned about TQ below 3,000 so maybe the 268???? How do they drive????

Or maybe someone has another idea...... Im just tired of 2-3 HP gains so things like grounding wires or TB are out of the question......Plus not real cost effective......

I would have to say cams and headers. You could always do single turbo and keep the headers, or do SC and keep the headers, or just do the headers and sell them when you do go TT. They would have to be removed anyway. The cams+headers will give you the best performance boost you can imagine for an NA car. I couldn't believe the gains with the Crawford Headers, then when I added the Cams I was amazed again, especially after the minimal gains here and there with other mods. I would recommend the Crawford headers and Tomei 268 cams!! I wanted the Tomei 264 cams for my 5AT, but I didn't have someone local who would do the install so I settled for the JWT cams.

I guess this would depend on how much money you have and how you want to go but my vote would be Headers, cams, and at the same time have the heads ported. Your looking at almost 100 hp to the wheels N/A. My Head porting guy (he's expensive) says he can get about 50hp to the wheels just by doing my heads and when you add headers and Cams that makes all your gains that much better.but you are looking at 1700$$ just for him to port the heads. Then 1500 for the cams. Man this crap gets expensive fast. Oh and while you got the heads pulled have him put titanium springs and so forth and then with the cams you can move your RPMS up atleast another 1,000. Oh and Rods to dont forget the rods for another 1,000. no your at about what 6,000. or so and thats not including any labor. I wish I could afford all this stuff.

after Cams, Headers, Pulleys....

Individual Throttle Bodies is where its at. :)

does anyone make an ITB kit for the Z ??

ReavTek Sep 27, 2004 04:54 PM

I really wanted to try the tomei cams. Could I use a really really mild cam and a supercharger? Cause I wanted to get some N/A power in the meantime with some headers and cams but dont want to throw money away with stuff that wont be compatible with a S/C.

That wouldn't provide 100 hp. Not even close. Your guy is blowing smoke up your ***.

redline350ZZ Sep 28, 2004 06:21 AM

Yeah im thinking about cam's but I really want to go turbo....... Too bad our Z cant handle boost for crap.....:(

I just dont see anything else in my path beside's going into the motor now.....

Is Tomei the only cam that makes a 264-268????

I would go cam's but dont want to do the new bucket's thing???? what's the highest I can go without having to get new bucket's????

JWT is only 260?????

First of all you don't have a clue who my head guy is. He is a friend on a huge NASCar team in special developments which I cannot release his name. Also with fully ported heads (the flow #'s he thinks he can achieve) and the with the ported intake to match, Headers, Cold air intake exhaust, cams to match, and pullies 100 hp is very very achievable. So whatever you think I guess your right if I had the money I would prove you wrong but I'm sorry I can't afford all that stuff. I'm not trying to be rude in anyway so please do not miss understand. I know that when you arent talking directly to someone it can easily be mistaken as to the intentions behind the words. I've been paying close attention to a lot of peoples mods on this web site and I've combined that with the knowledge of professionals and come to the conclusion that I have come to. My head guys swears that he can easily get 40 rwh at of my heads with no other mods.

I completely agree with you kaj75. There is a lot of potential in the heads from what I have heard from some very reputable people. I am just waiting to see if it will provide enough flow to make major power over my current mod setup, which btw I think it will. I just hope I will be able to get the ECU setup properly with TS when that day comes.

with amajor headwork like that though will the car be streetable?????? I assume your talking about something like a 268 cam????? has anyone installed this cam yet??????

stx Sep 29, 2004 05:09 AM

I believe there is a guy here that has the Tomei 268's and hit 300 rwhp.

Juztin Sep 29, 2004 05:59 AM

Well you can get the newest Nismo cams which go up to... 282?

I have the nismo 256 cams and they deliver good power for a mild cam. I'll go with higher duration cams when I go turbo'd probably along the lines of the Tomei's. But for N/A you can go with Nismo's high duration cams without worry, but if your going FI, I'd think twice.

redline350ZZ Sep 29, 2004 12:55 PM

So whats the highest someone should go if maybe they want F/I sometime in the future????
