If you take the spare tire out you'll notice there is a round black rubber piece under it. If you pop it off you can run a tub through the hole down to the fill hole. All you have to do then is put one end into the fill hole and stick a funnel on the other end and then just pour the diff fluid through the trunk. There is no need to lift the car up and it fills the diff quickly without any mess. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics but it's not hard to find the rubber plug. It only takes like 10 mins to fill the diff and all you have to do is just stand there an pour.
cool . . is this on all Zs ?

what year is your Z ?

Great DIY writeup Monsta... just changed the Differential fluid in my 04 Z auto with 67,000 miles on it (bought it used with 33,000 back in 07, flushed the tranny last year) and I'd guess it was never changed, had all the buildup on the plug and the used gear oil looked more like brown metal flake paint.... (i used the same valvoline 80w90 thats pictured above, not the synthetic)

I know this thread is sorta dead, but just thought I would add my experience. I used the Motul fluid in the rear diff, and nissan transmission fluid. I didnt have any problems before, but just wanted the peace of mind that the fluid was fresh, as I just bought the car. Runs and shifts the same, so I guess no change is a good thing? I used the funnel + tubing and it worked perfect. Minimal mess with that method, Ive used the suction pumps before and would end up making a disaster, and it cost like $5 for the supplies from a hardware store, well worth it in my opinon.

I finally did oil changes for my transmission and rear differential while I changed my motor oil.
I use red line MTL+MT-90 for tranny (couldn't find MT-85) at local store and 75W90 (GL-5) gear oil for rear differential.
I feel a little better when changing gears (1to2to3), fortunately I don't have the negative experience that some reported with red line.
I guess that it is worthy oil changes. (my car is at 83000miles)

By the way, be sure to have crush washer ready, I had to leave my car on jack stand
over night before I ran out to get correct size washer.
Your best bet is Nissan dealer, I got them from Carquest store on my way to dealer
after I bought wrong ones from Autozone and couldn't find it in O'reilly and Napa.

Maybe I mis-read somewhere but is the OEM Manual Transmission fluid just regular non-synthetic? I thought i read somewhere that the manual transmission fluid is now synthetic....

OK so I changed my diff fliud tonight (looked all nasty btw).

And my FSM says the diff drain/fill plugs are only 25 ft-lbs. Some others in this thread including the OP have said the diff is 55-61 ft lbs?

Maybe I'm reading the FSM wrong, but isn't that incorrect? Shouldn't it just be 25 ft-lbs?

In the FSM for 2006, it says 25 ft-lbs for both drain and fill plugs. I just torque to feel and it has always been fine for me.

I changed my diff fluid when I got the car at 80k and it was disgusting. Probably never been done before. I just did it again today at 90k to try a new fluid and it was still very clean. I used RP the first time and the oil today (1 year later) still looked purplish. I switched to MotylGear 75w-90 to try this time.

Default Redline MT85?

Anyone try this yet..instead of mixing the MT90 with MTL?

http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=140&pcid=7

Recommended for Nissan 350Z and 370Z (also most Maxima, Altima & Sentra), Mitsubishi Evolution, Hyundai, and Kia applications

2 years on MT-85 and all's well so far. Prior to that I used Nissan MTF and couldn't tell the difference so whatever is less expensive will work well.

Found original OEM MTF for around $8. It's not the price...I just don't think anyone has found a better tranny fluid...so that's what I finally decided to put in.

So.....

After reading all 25 pages of this thread (in regards to the manual trans)

Just use the damn OEM trans fluid. Or give Redline MT-85 75W85 GL 4 a try. And hope there are no issues.

It seems that not 1 person has had an issue with the OEM trans fluid, but at least someone has had issues with every single after market trans fluid listed in this thread.

Actually just order the Redline MT85.

Brothersperformance has it for $10.99 a quart with free shipping
https://www.brothersperformance.com/...oil-75w85.aspx

Cheaper than OEM.

I will see how it holds up

LOL...I think you were correct when you said this>>

This is exactly why I went with OEM. BTW..you can get the OEM for around the same cost..
