I have now gone through two replacements of bearings and now, it seems like I may need another. My problem seems that the axle nut is backing off leading to pre-mature wear. The nut was replaced prior and torqued to spec I would assume.

Whats to prevent the nut from backing off? I just re-snugged it with about 150lb/ft. likely have to get it replaced still since the bearing is probably damaged.

The clicking noise is due to the grease and warmer weather, it's normal, the grease is to pack it out and silence the movement. However, your nut shouldn't be backing off, sounds like you might not be doing all it says in the shop manual?

There's no reason a new nut that's properly installed and torqued is gonna back itself off. Who put it on?

Look for grease splatter around the DriveShaft at the front and rear U-Joints. If you see ANY! DriveShaft is done and you need a new one. It is not rebuildable. I got an aluminum racing drvieshaft from DriveShaftspecialist.com

My car sits from summer to summer in the northeast conditions. Was frequently buried under snow.

When I first noticed the car was unstable in the rear (again) it was april 2014 and I brought it to a guy who has worked on it before. He snugged up the axle nut while I was there watching and the slight wiggle from the wheel was alleviated, however the tracking/wiggle wasn't after that.

Fast forward to this season the car has been sitting with mis-matched tires which I thought was the issue. Just had brand new Extreme performance summers put on and noticed the wiggle still there. Jacked up car checked wheel and there was articulation if you push on the top of the tire toward wheel well. The bearing was either going and the nut backed off somehow.

I doubt the tire tech backed it off, but who knows. If not a rusty axle could be the issue.

Just dropped it to another guy to replace this bearing. Hopefully it solves the issue.

Are they installing the cotter pin correctly?... not sure how it can be done wrong... but also make sure its the right size pin

I thought the Axle nut tq was 208 ft lbs?

Here's our version of the click fix. Re-tightening the large nut on the axle shaft probably has a lot to do with it.

Na a little hammer action will remove that axle with no problems.

If done properly with grease or anti-seize it will also last the life of the bearing though, lock-tite seems unnecessary in this application to me. As they mention, cleaning is the most important step and people seem to skip that. I removed my axle to clean and grease it, if you just push it back and squirt a little grease in there you are just covering up the rust with it, not right.

They show cleaning everything down with brake cleaner, then putting loctite. No grease.

Happens to all of them. Open it up and clean it, apply grease.

Since this was bumped I just wanted to add my anecdote of just tapping the splines out the of the hub with a mallet, greased and reinstalled. Took about 25 minutes and got rid of the click, no need to remove axle at the diff.

Ok so doing this today and I totally forgot to mark before removing. Did I just **** up royally? Any harm in not having marked so I'm basically putting it back together blindly at this point.

No it will still be ok. You could possibly get a vibration after it's back together but that's unlikely.
