I've been lurking and reading up on these swaps, all the different avenues one can go with. It seems like the best bet for my particular situation is to go with an Iron Block truck motor to start with, such as the LQ4 or the LQ9, then swap over to a different head, and a popular head to go with seems to be the L92's.

My question is, why not just go with the L92 motor? It's a 6.2 to begin with and makes power comparable to the LS2 (from the Wikipedia page, it seems that the L92 is just the "Truck" version of the LS2). What's to stop a man from throwing a Fast Intake manifold on it an calling it a day? I understand that the accessories will probably have to be sourced from another LS motor series to work best in the Z, but other than that?

I'm still very new to this so any wisdom is appreciated. All the swaps look very, very nice. I was hunting for a 240 I could dump some money into, but, after having owned a 350z for awhile and loving the car, I think there's no question that an LS350Z is in my future.

L92 motor is still pretty new so they are expensive. It also has vvt some people dont wont to bother with that either. They are making good power though with just cam swaps on the vvt l92 engines.

That's about what I thought.

I dunno, the more I think it over, I think the best route is going to be buying a whole 99+ Z28 or Trans, preferably a 2001 or 2002, pulling the engine and transmission then selling off the rest of the car as parts. It seems that, with the cost of the cars in this range, the revenue from the parts will make up for or even eclipse the cost of the car to begin with. Of course, I'm going to have to rebuild the motor, but I'd probably want to do that anyhow.

There's a local salvage yard that has 2010 Vet that was wrecked in inventory. I asked the guy how much for just the engine and accessories, he told me $20K. I laughed at him. LS3 would be nice, but ain't no way I'm spending that much on just the motor.

ha, i was just looking for this thread to ask opinions on buying a camaro, pulling everything and selling it off. i think it would be a good option if you can find one for pretty cheap. then parting the car can take some time however it will give you something to do while your car is in the shop (if you dont plan on doing the swap yourself)

If you are ever looking to make alot of power, start directly with a LSX block. the 4 bolt cylinder head pattern on the LS2 or LQ9 will lift after ~800-1000whp.

The 6 bolt pattern on the LSX is worth the extra money up front.

What do you think the all in cost is for you ls swap guys? Assuming no real wrench labor and building yourself. This thread has my mind starting to wander. It brings back the days of my first off frame build.

What I've seen for most folks has been from about $10K and up. Its going to depend on what route you go, but assuming that you stat with something basic like an LS1 and just swap it in, maybe with a cam, you're looking at about $10K.

Potato, I believe that's what I'm going to do. Truthfully, I don't even have a Z any longer, but I'll be buying one.... Maybe I'll just turn my garage into an F-body chopshop and fund my project that way.

Whoops! Forgot to update that. I'm actually in North Central Texas now. Moved up here awhile ago. I've been out of the car scene for a long time. Got married, had a kid, changed jobs, moved, bought a house... you know that story.

Still got family in Houston tho. I get down there all the time.

I miss my Z.

Here's a good starter for you, Potaten:

http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/3349245904.html

You'd need your own T56 or TR6060 to go with it but the car is probably cheap enough because of no title that you could pull the motor and make money on the parts. Could be stolen goods tho, so be careful.

So I asked about this on the LS forum and thought I'd post up here to see if I get anymore help. When the car gets up to around 200-205 degrees the coolant fills up the overflow tank and bubbles over. The line from the TB connects to the overflow tank and this is where I think my problem lies. I believe it should leave the TB and go back to the radiator and the hose by the radiator cap should run to the overflow tank. Correct? I don't have a spot to run the hose from the TB so can I just cap it off? I've seen that people bypass the coolant to throttle body but I would still need a place for that line to go if I can't cap it off. Any suggestions? This is the spot Im talking about:

It can be done for cheaper if you have patience and look for deals on all the parts.
