No. The reason is I can make that much power and stay NA while keeping it Nissan with an engine I like.

Like I was saying. I understand what OP is getting at. I'd never attempt the swap thiugh. I don't need more power anytime soon

I seen you talking about a LS swap in another thread from 2011, have you done it yet?

If you want me to admit the LS is easier and better than ok it's true. But a built VK56 that fits under the hood has a lot of appeal to Nissan enthusiasts.
Understand?
This thread is not to debate a VK/LS swap it's to point out that the VK56VD would make a better choice based on the intake manifold and it makes 100 more hp stock.
Thank you

Chris Foresburg makes like 550 know a VK
Makes close to 800 N/A, 1000 on spray.

I know this is an old post but I was researching more about direct injection engines and there are pros and cons. The pros is that they are more efficient and make more power the cons are the carbon build up on the valves that have to be walnut blasted every XXXXX miles or so. To me its not worth the extra money. What happens is on a port injected car the injectors wash the back of the intake valves and they stay clean but on a direct injected engine the back of the valves never get washed with the fuel and they get gunked up with black carbon deposits and have to be cleaned. The ONLY company so far that I have seen address this is TOYOTA with their newer direct injected engine. It has DUAL injectors; one direct and one port for each cylinder so that the port are the secondaries that are used to wash the back of the valves so the carbon never builds up on them and never need that service done. I hope all the other automotive companies follow suit......until then. LS SWAP for me!

From what I recall of pics of swapped VK56 vs LSx, the LS looked a bit smaller (IIRC the weight of an LS was similar to the VQ? as least the aluminum block? The VK56 probably is heavier) which would be good for piping I would imagine. Also the whole thing about going down the street to get a part for an LSx vs. ordering a part from Nissan and waiting. I know when my VQ was getting built and we had to get things like shims/chains/sprockets/buckets it took forever to get from Nissan as they were on back order.

I get the reasoning behind keeping it Nissan, but like others have said, the allure for me for a V8 engine in the Z is for the v8 boosted power potential to get to big power easier due to the literage. I'm still enjoying my TT'd VQ, but am slowly saving up for a Sikky. If your budget is like 10K, I'd say just got TT/Supercharger on stock block and enjoy 400-600 HP and forego the swap as it's probably going to run way more than 10K anyway.

So I bought this really damaged M56 to do the swap finally!!!!!!!!! It's been done already now too by a G35 owner, but I'm sure I'll have the first VKVD Z in Canada!!

I didnt do too well on the donor car however it's badly damaged. The engine was damaged too..... But it can be fixed as far as I know. I am going to do a used oil analysis and a compression test before I do anything, but this is a winter project for me so pregress will be slow. I'm just parting the car out now to get some money back out of it, then I get to testing it. Hopefully by next summer it will be in my Z!

Hate to say it, but that wrecked M56 looks like the engine may be too damaged to be of much use. Unless it actually starts and runs, a UOA will likely only show what its condition was BEFORE the accident. Compression test may also be inconclusive until you actually cut it out of the car and do a full inspection of the block and ancillary parts. BTW- the VK race motors used in international racing are actually full race motors engineered by NISMO in Japan. Only the base block is similar to what we get in street cars..
