VK56VD Direct injection

Hey guys I just found out that Nissan makes a version of the VK56 that has direct injection and thus a more slim intake manifold.
It will most definitely fit under the 350z hood.

So for all you guys doing Ls swaps, maybe knowing this will help you stick with a Nissan engine. It's making me rethink things.

And Nismo ran the VK45 in the 350z and VK56 in the GT1 GTR so you know it cant be a bad idea to use the engine. It's DOHC too.

Hows the aftermarket support for the VK56?

0jiggy0 10-10-2015 08:40 PM

They sound good too.

Wu-Watt 10-11-2015 05:49 AM

This is the VK swap everyone should be doing because on the DE you have to either cut the hood (No way I'm cutting my MCR hood) or run ITB's. (Expensive and challenging)

So with this swap the VK56VD you get
-420hp/417tq over the 315hp/380tq
-Probably wont have to cut the hood. (Good chance)
-Use your 350z transmission.
-Dont have to mess with ITB's for a clean hood.
-Drive by wire throttle bodies
-Dual intakes
- Higher revs
-?

Gotta have a custom exhaust, drive shaft, and maybe engine mounts. A adapter plate is needed for the mating of the transmission.

I've actually just recently started some light researching about a possible VK swap.

^^^^That is my main concern right now. I've been trying to find how well the aftermarket is before I consider anything further. So far it seems pretty slim, and only found one site that only offers piston packages. But again, I haven't searched very much yet.

*Update* Of course there is cam support from JWT, but kind of assumed that anyway, haha.

Conway_160 10-11-2015 07:23 AM

Engine is frigging Expensive!

I'm sure the bottom end can be built and cams with a port n polish would be a nice compliment.

I can't find a price anywhere...

0jiggy0 10-11-2015 07:51 AM

I wonder if those cams are meant for the titan version. Guess Ill research to see what nissan did to the longblock to gain so much power with the same displacement.

waldo36 10-11-2015 08:04 AM

If you really want more info about doing the swap in general, Silver350zed can surely enlighten you...

Start at post #176 and read from there. Interesting swap to say the least.

Most of the aftermarket will be custom... Get a hold of MA Motorsport.

i've been thinking of this for a long time.. if anything ever happens to my titan that's the route i'll be going. but with a different chassis. going to keep my current one with the DE.

HRMoneyPit 10-11-2015 11:23 AM

The V8 with bolt ons would be enough power for me since I already think my HR has enough. I would love the VK power without the problems FI bring. Nothing but a motor to worry about

Chris Foresburg makes like 550 know a VK

SirSpeedyZ 10-11-2015 11:30 AM

Damn that M56 sounds mean!

So, are you all seeing why people go with a LS over a VK? It costs way less, is an easier swap, and you actually have an aftermarket.

The VK swaps have been done, I have never been impressed by one yet

Wu-Watt 10-12-2015 07:52 AM

I know why, and here I'm just showing that Nismo uses the v8's in the racecars so why not in my car. And the VK56VD will make a cleaner swap because it has a lower intake manifold, and makes an extra 100hp tho it's more expensive yes.
If the engine on a stock M56 makes 420hp then with LTH's, exhaust, intake, tune, should make 420whp. Throw JWT cams in and get another 30whp maybe.

I like Chevy V8's, but if I could keep it Nissan that'd be cool.
In my eyes the swap is fairly inexpensive.

HRMoneyPit 10-12-2015 07:57 AM

I've dreased aboutique this swap for years before I got a 350. Just seems out if hand for a normal guy like me who does his own work

Classy 10-12-2015 08:23 AM

You realize you are talking about spending $10k+ (with a big emphasis on the +) on the same power you could make with a supercharger on the V6? The whole point of the V8 is to make gobs of power, lots of torque and boost the crap out of it. I don't see the justification of all that money to "keep it Nissan"

Wu-Watt 10-12-2015 08:56 AM

Thats ok. I've considered lots of engine options for my car when the time comes.
I've found a V8 would be the best bang for my buck and reliability. Keeping it Nissan would be ideal.
Adding a super charger wont get you 400+ ftlbs torque. And V8's are cooler than a V6. It might actually get the car some respect. lol No one thinks 350z's are fast.
