why doesn't someone make a taller front under spoiler?
 

the Z's aero package includes that small plastic under spoiler under the front bumper. It's about an inch tall.

The C6 corvete has one too. It's like 3 inches tall.

Why hasn't anyone made one like that for the Z?

Then you don't have a piece like a lower lip to get all beat up and the paint chipped. Instead you'd just have the plastic piece get chewed up and since it's out of sight, you'd never see it

It should be pretty cheap to make and sell

I can't really think of any downsides to it other than it'll get a little beat up over bumps and might possibly fall off eventually

And it would actually help with front down force

i've thought about that too

or maybe a new plastic aero under plate - whatever it is, the plastic piece right behind the bumper on the bottom of the car. Have one with an under spoiler built in so it's even more hidden


seems like a lot less hassle than trying to maintain the paint on a front lip - and lighter weight, with less likely scraping it on bumps like you would a lip because lips stick so far out

Why mess with the aerodynamics of a car with zero lift?

maybe some people wouldn't mind more downforce?

Regulations
 

Gov't regulations of vehicles having a certain height clearance. Manufacturers have to follow all DOT rules and regs.

the other simpler design option is to just offer a taller version of the stock aero chin spoiler as is sold here:

it doesn't cover the full width of the bottom of the car though

you could lower the front clearance, but you'd still get air sucking in under the car from the side skirts...

to have more effective underside airflow, lower the car, and have the nose slightly lower than the rear...

i dont like the ones on the vette, you can see it so easily. The one on the z does its job well enough, adding a few more inches wont do anything. Its already got zero lift. But i hear what your saying.

Agreed... that thing bugs me everytime i see a vette coming towards me. Same goes for alot of american cars. I've seen them hang really low like on camaros, and cavaliers even. There's looks like it's lower coz that's where the actual oil pan is sitting anways, but they just didn't make a low enough front bumper to cover. I'd personally rather have a lower aftermarket lip/bodykit.

I saw someone that screwed black ABS (like gutter stuff at Home Depot) to the OEM piece. Didn't look too good...

on the SLR and I think SLK and such; the rims are fan blades. they suck air from under the car; decreasing the high pressure under the car; and at the same time providing active cooling for the brakes. pretty basic idea; but really smart.
