Who else doesn't like the sound of factory Z Horns?

One of the things that I didn't like about my 305Z Enthusiast with Aerodynamic Package since I received it back in August 02 was how the Horns sound. The Z always had this sharp Japanese style twin Metal Horns back in the 70s, 80, and 90s. If I'm not mistaken, they all sounded similar. Now the Horns on Z33 sound like typical American made cars or trucks.
I have a 82 ZX coupe that's rusting out and I'm planning to part out or junk it. I've been wanting to switch the Japanese Denso Horns from the 82 to my new Z. Last weekend I did it. Ofcourse first I made them look like new before installation.
I think it was a good idea now that my Z33 sounds like its predecessors when it talks to crazy drivers on the road. Maybe the 350Z Horns in Japanese models sound the same as mine.

That is a great idea, I didn't like them either but also did not have a part out older Z to rob so I bought the J Spec horns and they sound a lot better.

I've got the Japan Horns too and they're pretty cool.

Not a big mod really, but fairly easy (once you get the bumper off)
and different.

I should just remove my horn and save weight. haha havent used it yet.

when someone does something stupid warrenting a horn, I put all my energy into avoiding it rather than using one hand to lay on the horn which may make you feel better, but does nothing to better your situation. by the time Ive gotten myself out of trouble, I find it much more satisfying to drop to 2nd(or 3rd) get next to him, flick him off, and speed off. screw the horn, the finger is more personal.

You might want to wait till the market is saturated with Zs.. otherwise that guy you just flicked off will recognize the one black Z in said city and key it, knife the tires and break out your windshield.

I agree the horn most likely isn't gonna save you from a last second situation but it can prevent you from getting in a situation like that. People back up all the time without even looking and a loud blast from the horn can get them to slam on their brakes, and show everybody what an idiot they are.

Relax guys, its just a horn. Use it or not.
We live in Miami Florida. Believe me, HORN IS A MUST. Westpak know what I mean.

rouxeny, why you had to remove the whole Bumper to replace Horns? They are right in front, with proper tools, its easy to work on.

ares, how old are you?

roberto350z Jan 8, 2003 10:54 AM

I love it cuz it sounds serious. Like a big truck.... it says "get the f*ck out of my way"

rouxeny Jan 8, 2003 11:05 AM

Yeah, I took the whole bumper off. I was also installing the clear sides so having the bumper off made it easier. I think it should be possible to do without bumper removal, I just didn't have the proper tools or small enough hands.

19, and it should be mentioned, I havent yet had to honk, or flick anyone off in the Z. people seem to give me space now, where my last car(dodge ram) they were always trying to see if they could run me off the road. I donno.
