Cool Painted Calipers on My Chrome Silver

Decided to paint the calipers red on my Chrome Silver Z. I used the G2 kit from www.tirerack.com - Wasnt too hard. Just time consuming.

The brush that comes with the kit is terrible. My advice is to purchase a couple of better brushes. - One larger and smaller one. - Also - the paint starts to dry very quickly. They say it is only good for 6 hours. Mine was really only good for about 4 hours. When it starts to try it gets very gummy. - I also advise getting some painters drop cloth and some very good brake cleaner. Cover everything but the brakes, spray the break cleaner on the brakes and clean them off with a wire brush.

Here are some pics of the process:

Can you say nervous!!!
(Car on 4 jack stands!!!)

Never did find a really good place to put the jack stands for the rear of the car, when I started jacking up the first corner in the rear of the car, the entire car came off the gorund, I put jack stands under the car, and left the jack in place.

Dont FALL!!!

Other piece of advise...
Since I was having to take the wheels off, I decided to order some wheel wax. So far is has managed to keep a pretty good amount of brake dust off the car, and the dust that is on the wheels is easier to remove.

Looks good! Are you happy with how everything turned out? How do you think body color (chrome silver) would look on the calipers???

Default Very Happy

I am very happy with the way everything turned out. I also have a 99 Honda Prelude SH daily driver (black) that I am going to paint the calipers on (black). I think silver would look good. But I dont think they would stand out as much.

The calipers are not very big - especially on the rear of the car. I personally like the red the best on Chrome Silver. - They stand out.

I like! Nice work. I'm considering the same, although a different color, for my CS. My only reservation is paint coming off, heat, peel, etc. What happens with brake dust? How do you clean them?

Speaking of cleaning brake dust. Has anyone replaced the stock brake pads with aftermarket of BETTER quality? This brake dust is killing me. I thought it was only going to be temporary while the pads broke in, but it's been 4k miles.

Nice job! -m

I painted my calipers red about 2 months ago. I used the same G2 kit that these pictures were done with. I clean the wheels with Eagle One wheel cleaner and have no problems with paint chipping, ,flaking etc... The paint is VERY duable once it hardens. If I remember correctly it will withstand upto 900 degrees -Faranheit. Try it - you like it.

Has the colors at the bottom. I'm going to do yellow on my superblack Z I think. The red sure looks good but I want to try something different, I'll post pics and let you all see what you think.

Thanks. This sounds like a cool project. Now, if I could only decide on a color... Sorry ccondo, although it looks nice on your CS, I'm not sure that's the color I would want. I can already rule out a few colors, NO RED or YELLOW. What about SILVER? What are my color options?

I'll have to try the eagle one! Thanks for the tip. -m

cool, I would LOVE to see yellow or blue on a Z, I saw some yellow on a 911 the other day, looked great. with my custom wheels it sure would stand out, so I would want to do it right!!

Did those who have painted their calipers wait 24 hours for it to cure, like they said? Even on the weekend that's going to be a pain for me. My paint is coming today, so naturally I am anxious to do this. I will have to see if my friend lets me borrow his truck I guess.

i was talking to someone in another thread a few days ago, and he mentioned how the track version callipers are colored.
i think that color would match pretty nice with the lemans colored Z.

now the problem is finding that color for callipers...

my buddy has his callipers painted green on his accord. if i go with that color i wont hear the end of it...
