HID's before they warm up

Hey i tried searching but was a weird question, what temp do you guys think the bulbs are at when you first put them on? I have an 07 if that matters, and just love the color when you first turn on the lights, before they warm up to the whitish color. I dont want dark blue, but i think they look pretty good, bright and blueish at first, first time with HID's so im not good with the colors, thanks.

meaj82 Jun 28, 2007 04:48 AM

When I first got my car. I loved the way the color looked when I first turned them on. I recently switched out my bulbs to 8000k and they look just like that all the time now.

People will argue that you lose light output, which is true but unless you live where there are no city lights I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I can hardly tell the difference.

IMO, as long as you stay around 6000K-8000K you won't be sacrificing that much output, to worry about it. Anything 10,000K or higher, IMO is for nothing but show. I just upgraded to 8000K too, and it looks great.

6000k bulbs sacrifice 25% of their output compared to stock, and it just goes downhill from there

Cool ill look into those, i live out in rural area but drive through the town nearby a lot, no biggy, either way i bet theyll be brighter than my old halogens. Ill look into 6k and 8k, i assume stock is like 4300k i think i read that somewhere. Just feel like regular white makes you look like every other luxury car on the road.

redlude97 Jun 28, 2007 11:04 PM

I'd rather look like every luxury car on the road rather than every ricer with blue bulbs any day of the week, but if thats the way you want to go, its your prerogative

Accordaleer Jun 29, 2007 06:25 PM

No i hear ya totally, i love the look of HID's, thats why i dont want dark blue, i dont wanna look like cheesy drop in "xenons" that are just halogens with blue glass. I just want a slight blueish tint, i saw my headlights on my camera phone and they looked great. Thats why i think i might look into 6k.

Accordaleer Jun 29, 2007 06:26 PM

Plus i think with blue headlights your asking a cop to pull you over because your probably a young driver.

meaj82 Jun 29, 2007 06:47 PM

Heres a pic of my 8000k bulbs for to help you get an idea of how much blue they put out.

Accordaleer Jun 29, 2007 07:07 PM

Thats what I said in my first post:icon38: . They look like when you first turn on your lights. I got them from one of the vendors here au2tek.

I have more pics in his thread. The farther away you are they have a deeper blue but, when you get close they start looking white with blue.

Here you go:

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=261493

FYI the bulbs are d2c.
Your cut off line will not be as clean as oem

I'm guessing thats why they are cheaper than the philips and piaas d2s $200-$350 compared to mine which were about $80

It does not bother me at all. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Accordaleer Jun 29, 2007 10:45 PM

Awesome link, thanks a ton.

Prosport Gauges Jun 30, 2007 04:55 AM

Can anyone tell me what the bulb base is for the 350?? (i.e. H1, H7, etc..) We do have some stock on HID's that we import for sale in other countries. Because we actually are overstocked and need to blow some out!!

gabez33 Jun 30, 2007 04:25 PM

anyone running 10k with pics??? Please post! thank you!!

Accordaleer Jun 30, 2007 11:37 PM

From that thread, i think i may go with 6k, slighly more blue than the the white but whatever, that mod can wait a bit. I think 8k is going to be too dark or too blue rather. Be cool to see some of those exotic colors on a car, like 15k and higher if they make them, too lazy to look.

gabez33 Jul 1, 2007 07:12 AM

what do the new BMW use on thier cars? From a distance it looks so nice and exotic, it like a purple white...I love that...maybe 10k?? I saw a black BMW with purple light..it look soooo sick!

they are cheaper because they are off brand, sh!t, capsules. You have dramatically less light, and dramatically lesser quality capsules compare to phillips/hella or sylvania/osram - you get what you pay for and you paid for crap.

all these threads just goes to show how severely uninformed all you guys are. The color every desires has absolutely NOTHING to do with kelvin rating and EVERYTHING to do with the lens and cut-off shield that make up the projector. Having anything other than pure white light is ricer. Having a colorfull cutoff due to a proper projector setup is what HIDs are all about.

8000K, 9000K, 10000K <- all are ricers.... pass the soy sauce

guess what, they use a ~4300K rated capsule from either phillips/hella or sylvania/osram. The lens and cut-off in the projector refract the light to give you the color you think looks "so sick" . Attempting to replicate that color with a sh!t brand 8000K+ rated capsule is juvenile, naive, stupid, and very so much ricer
