Are my headlights HID's?
 

I've tried looking for info and I'm still lost. I got an 04 Enthusiast 350z. Cruise control, auto dimming mirror, etc. So I should have them right? I'm just curious b/c I always thought they were blue lights. If anyone could fill me in that'd be great :)

yes they are hid's

they should be. just turn them on at night and see if they look like they warm up and get a little brighter.

Technically they should be HID. However, if you bought your car used, it's possible somebody pulled the ol' switcharoo on you. Look for the ballasts and igniters. There's a big difference between non HID and HID though. You should be able to tell easy enough.

Only the base model had halogens, all higher trim levels had HID stock. Pay attention to the light output when you turn on your headlights, they should flash on, somewhat dim then brighten over the next 5-15 seconds or so. If you turn them on and they are instant brightness you might have blue coated halogen bulbs in which case you might be screwed, the previous owner may have bought halogen housings or something and swaped out the factory HID headlamps before they sold the car. But I don't see why anyone would do this, seems more effort than its worth.

^^ More than likely the old test drive switch. Go to a dealer, get a test drive, bring it to your house and make a swap real quick. Sucks, but it happens. Know your car before you buy used. Found an 07 last year online with 04 non HID lights. Dealer had no clue what I was talking about.

You effing kidding me?!??! Someone would actually do that? People like that should be shot, multiple times, and then again for good measure. That's just not cool.

You'd have to know exactly what your doing too, because I understand it takes some time to get teh headlights out. Don't you have to take off the bumper?

Most dealers wont just let you take a car to test drive by yourself, unless they dont really care about the car.

You do need to pull the bumper off correct. But some of us can do that in less than 10 minutes. As for the dealer test drive, over my birthday last weekend, the Audi dealer let me test drive some 08 TT's and couple Porsches they had on the lot with just my wife and I. Spent about half the day cruising around in random cars. Never met the dealer before in my life. Cool guy though. Will probably bring him business this summer.

I believe mine are HID's. They start up blue and brighten up and turn more white. This is just my first car with HID's and there's other 350's i've seen with headlights that were more blue. Thx for all the input though from everyone

if they're stock lights shouldn't they be white and not blue (around 4500k)? I think the blue tint starts coming around 6000k, and 8000k is more blue. correct me if im wrong, im just a base driver lol but ive been researching hids off and on

Stock is either 4100K or 4300K, i'm thinking they are 4300K. But on cars that are older than probably 6 months the HID capsules will 'color shift' and get bluer throughout their life, not to mention get a bit dimmer. But in comparrison to halogens, a lot of people say the output is bluish. They are usually blue/green during the fireup sequence then get whiter as they warm up.

i could switch headlights on both cars out in 15 min tops.

not hard to do at all.

How do you get to the bulb easilly? I heard the easiest is to take the wheel off, take out the wheel well liner and reach in from there.
