Default New paint and clear bra?

I am picking my bumper up from the paint shop tomorrow and want to get a clear bra put on it. How long should I wait before I get the clear bra put on?

ask the body shop....they usually say 30days before you wax it....so i don't see why clear bra would be any different. i would think maybe a bit longer time than 30days.

Are you getting the adhesive type? Did you look into the spray on kind at all? They put it on like the paint and you don't see any edges. I had mine done last year and couldn't be more impressed.

Aerotect told me 14 days minimum, but I haven't done it yet, so I can't say for sure.

Can you give me some more info on this?

So is it just like a few extra coats of clear?

Never heard of this. How's your paint? any chips or scraps?

The stuff I have on mine is called ArmorCoat. It holds up fairly well. You can take a key to it and it won't scratch it. You will mess up the body pannel under it before you mess up the paint. For example a big enough rock will dent the aluminum hood before chipping the paint.

It's kind of pricey, but not much more than the adhesive stuff. About $400 for mine I think + all my paintwork. When they put it on they did 4 coats. It took them a while to do it all.

Mine has 2 small spots down by the bottom and one little spot on the hood and that is about 12k that I have put on it after having it painted. Compared to the stock paint that was peppered by 5k. We have a lot of gravel truck from where I'm at so it tends to eat it a lot.

Wow thats pretty impressive. You are making me want to repaint my whole car so I can put this stuff on now.

Since my bumper has been in the shop I have noticed all the other nicks around my car and it is making me want to repaint the whole thing anyways but I dont have the funds to do it now. Maybe next year.

Thanks for the info.

They gave me a sample chip with un coated and coated paint on it and it is some durable stuff. It was kind of fun to experiment with. It dents the metal before chipping or cracking paint under it.

Had a accident about 40 days back. My bumper was replaced and repainted. They told me to wait 30 days before I washed and waxed the bumper. I parked the car in my garage and left it alone for 30 + days.

I had my bumper done and the shop told me to wait 60 days for a full cure before putting on clear bra.. I guess the pain can swell and bubble if put on to soon. Better safe than sorry!!!!

You need to wait until the paint is fully cured before installing the clear bra. I have been installing ClearMask for 3 years and have had a lot of experience with it. You do not want to put it on to soon mainly because once it adheres to the paint, it may pull the clear coat off later down the road if you have to remove it. If you wait until the paint is cured, you wont have any problems. Also you do not want to wax the area you are getting covered. The surface needs to be clean from any wax or debris before the installation.

If you have any more questions, feel free to pm me.

+1 on this!!

I waited around this amount of time, I had to have some fixed on the lip part at a later time and the paint didnt peel off or anything! I have heard horror stories from the place I get mine done with people waiting less then 30 days and they had to peel it off for some reason and the paint came with it!! YIKES!

Wait 45-60 days, drive REALLY far back from people as I did and I didnt have ONE rock chip...

Most of the time when the paint peels off a after-market part is because the body shop did a lousy job. They probably didn't use any flex agent in the paint.
