Nogaro Red Is Not A Tri-Stage

Today at Universal Technical Institute I did some reasearch on the paint mixing computer. I looked up Nogaro Red paint code A41, mixed the paint and made a spray out card. The paint is only a base coat clear coat paint, not a tri-stage. The only reason that it appears so bright is b/c there is a white sealer underneath the red base coat. To make sure that it was an accurate match, once the clear dried I took the card and laid it on my hood and it matched perfectly. Just wanted to let others know so they don't get suckered into paying more at the body shop.

thanks for the info..

can you do the same research for the other factory colors as well and post them up here?

Gibbs 07-20-2009 08:47 PM

Well I can't make a spray out card for each one but I can look them up on the mixing computer and then post what I find out here.

Chebosto 07-20-2009 08:53 PM

that would be great- i can make it a sticky..

perhaps list the color code for each of the colors while your at it. no need to spray each sample.

Gibbs 07-20-2009 10:43 PM

Well there is already a paint code thread listing all the colors and their paint codes. https://my350z.com/forum/exterior-an...int-codes.html But I can list the paint codes and which ones are and aren't tri-coats.

I found the older model 350z's paint information a while back when searching information for my paint. I'm not 100% positive but for the older models I believe only QX1 Pikes Peak White is a tri-stage paint.

Hi, not sure where you came up with your facts but I have a Nogaro Red Nismo Z that I just repainted the hood on. This paint is a Tri-Coat paint, I printed the formula, I mixed the paint, I shot the sealer, the basecoat and the tinted clear. This all came about because I thought it was a BC/CC and color sanded a portion of my hood to remove a scuff. I used 2000grit and didnt even sand enough to remove the orange peel in the clear. You could visually spot everywhere I sanded after buffing it back out due to light spots in the areas I sanded. TRI-COAT!!!!

Well when I looked up the paint code I specifically looked for a tinted clear option or a mid coat. I couldn't find either option. So I mixed it up like a base coat clear coat, and made a spray out card, and it matched my paint perfectly. You could pannel paint it and not be able to tell.

Nogaro red is a tri-coat paint. I just bought sum to paint my 06 Z. The book at car quest said it was a bc/cc. But when he searched it n the computer it came back as a tri-coat. They said to shoot a white sealer/primer then base coat. Then the mid coat. Kinda looks like a candy red. Then lay sum clear. That's how you get the effect of the paint

huh i got charged as a tri coat when i got the side mirror repainted. cost me damn near 300
