front bumper is not aligned...

So, I noticed that my front bumper is not totally aligned with my headlights and fenders. Is there any way I can adjust it myself? yea... I don't want to go to a body shop. thanks

Ztouring04 11-01-2009 02:47 PM

pics?

aaronz8 11-01-2009 02:58 PM

the camera isn't handy right now, but i'll post as soon as possible.
Here's a better description:
Where the bumper and fenders meet, they match up on the outermost edge. As it gets closer to the headlight, the bumper gets too outward.
Also, if you look at the headlight lower corner, the bumper looks like it is hanging off the top part. The gap between the lower part of the headlight and the top of the bumper is bigger than every other gap.

attached are pics!

when inspecting the uberfail, i also noticed the fender liner was cut, in order to get to a bolt on the bumper. wtf...
I keep noticing more and more meh's about this car :(

first, small paint drips on the body where the hatch covers. then, I notice that passenger door is half semi-matte, gradually glossier as you look towards the rear. Then, I see that the left rear wheel is kind of more silver than the other wheels, seeming like it is painted. Then, I notice that a sticker that is supposed to be on passenger door jamb is on my driver door jamb. and now, the front bumper is not right.
:(

I don't see anything wrong with the front bumper however you took pictures far away and one of them has your little squiggly white line running with the line of the bumper where you say the problem lies. I assume you didn't check all this before leaving the lot? The liner is cut? Someone was in a hurry to remove the front bumper for some reason. CARFAX!!!!

aaronz8 11-01-2009 03:33 PM

the carfax doesn't give me any clues as to why this happened.
This is my first car that I bought myself, so unfortunately I had no clue where and what to check. I... learned my lesson.
btw, these pictures are pretty old, when I didn't know about these things, which is why they are so far away.

I know exactly what you are talking about my front bumper is like this too.Even after I unbolted and re-tightened the front bumper there is still a gap around the headlights.

FliPPER_Z 11-01-2009 05:21 PM

why is the door paint dull? maybe its been in a wreck before?

aaronz8 11-01-2009 05:29 PM

no idea, the carfax was clean except manufacturer buyback

WhiskeyHotel 11-01-2009 06:35 PM

My front bumper was like that too. There didn't seem to be anything I could do about it. Yours doesn't look any worse than others I have seen. I'm guessing it's been removed and then replaced. Wheel could have been replaced? By the by - it's a good-looking Z. The more flaws you look for, the more you will find. :)

aaronz8 11-01-2009 06:46 PM

thanks!
Does anyone know if I change it with an aftermarket bumper, will it be off like this still? in the same way? or if a body shop would be able to line it up correctly?

+1

i was going to say the same thing. looks like a poor wetsand/buff job.

aaronz8 11-01-2009 07:40 PM

maybe, bumper not good + meh paint = prolly crashed before but not on carfax.

The thing is, it looks like there is no glossy clear coat over it. It's like glossy and gradually gets dull as u look from one side to the other. It's the same on the hood, passenger door, and rear bumper.

oh, and the fact that there are like barely noticeable paint streaks on the front right fender, but I hope they are actually water stains.

aaronz8 11-02-2009 08:28 AM

so there is no way to adjust the position of the front bumper? How would body shops line it up?

lgear080 11-02-2009 08:40 AM

There are two sets of bolts on either side of the front bumper... Call me crazy,
but it looks like yours have been over-tightened. Back the bolts out and re install.

You might be missing the second set of bolts too. They go through the SQUARE
outlet. For the record, you're being hypercritical and nothing might be wrong...

This could be caused by a very light front impact. Even with a curb or stantion.

Hmmmmm..... I have noticed this in several other Zs...but that door is just a clue to what might have really happened.
Just get a origin front bumper.

Car looks like being poorly repainted. Take off the bumper and see if there is anything inside misaligned first.

aaronz8 11-03-2009 07:16 PM

gotcha. thanks
