Varis Bumper Duct product review
4 Attachment(s)
Well, I went ahead and installed my Varis bumper duct. I figured I'd share some info on my particular experience in the event it may help someone else out. The part was purchased through Z1 performance.. it took forever to get here from Japan and I'm glad I waited.
Pros: Its a Varis! Weave is nice and tight fitment is 100% perfect Cons: The kit came with 4 self tapping screws? WTF.. Conclusion: I used 3mm Rivets with 1/4inch grab area to install the duct instead of the screws... it fit perfectly. I've compared against some others I've seen on the road and nothing comes close(I'm sure a Mine's is as nice or nicer) but weave is spectacular. Heres some pics: |
I was just hunting on here for vendors selling the air ducts. What vendor did you grab this from?
Thanks, lookin' good!! |
Does it come with the holes in the piece already? And do they make a mirror image of that one? My HR's dieing for a set...
|
I got it through Z1auto.com and my sales person was Adam... as for the HR.. I have no idea shoot Adam an email and I'm sure he'll point you in the right direction. The holes were pre-drilled.
|
hmm. jw does it really have actual gain? the Hr guy wont dont you get the still or injen long tube intakes?? they been proven to make power...

What's wrong with using self-tapping screws? Beats having to drill out the rivets when you have to replace a headlight bulb.

WHy would you remove it to change a light bulb?
|
I love my Varis duct. Ive had it for years and the clear coat hasnt faded or cracked. I actually need to install it into the 3rd front bumper Im now on, but lost the template.
|
Looks pretty good! Congrats!
As for gains, it is pretty much well known that this is more for the look than for any actual gains. It will help to keep temps slightly lower, particularly if you have a vented hood. I am quite sure someone in the forums did a through test about this. |

You have to remove the front bumper facia to change the light bulb. See section LT of the service manual: Bulb Replacement NKS004X8 HEADLAMP HIGH/LOW BEAM 1. Turn lighting switch OFF. 2. Open the driver and front passenger window, and then disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal or remove power fuse. CAUTION: After the battery cables ....... 3. Remove headlamp. Refer to LT-29, "Removal and Installation" . 4. Turn plastic cap counterclockwise and unlock it. 5. Turn bulb socket counterclockwise and unlock it. 6. Unlock retaining spring and remove bulb from headlamp. 7. Installation is reverse order of removal. Refer to LT-29, "Removal and Installation" Removal and Installation REMOVAL 1. Open the driver and front passenger window, and then disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal or remove power fuse. CAUTION: After battery cables are disconnected.... 2. Remove front bumper fascia. Refer to EI-14, "FRONT BUMPER" . <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< 3. Remove headlamp mounting bolts. 4. Pull head lamp toward vehicle front, disconnect connector, and remove headlamp. INSTALLATION Installation is the reverse order of removal. |
but you still dont have to remove it, and you dont have to take the bumper off you could change a bulb from the wheel well, now if you want to remove the whole headlight assembly then yes the bumper comes off but the air duct has nothing to do with the bumper coming off, is not in the way of anything

You have to remove the front bumper facia to change the light bulb. See section LT of the service manual... And from what I saw while changing my headlights, changing from the wheel well is perfectly possible too, but you will have much less space to work. |
^^^^ U are correct...
|
Great job. The rivets looks WAYYYYY cleaner than screws.
