Horn sound didn't matter to me, but it does now.
 

Who cares about horn? I've never used that since I bought my 350z on January. Last week, I was standing in line in a parking lot. Suddenly, the backup light of a honda oddesey, which was parked perpendicularly, was turned on. Since there was no room in front or back, I just pushed my horn several times, but the van just backed up and T-boned my 350z. The driver of the van told me she didn't hear any horn sound! Sigh.... So, I tried the horn to check out and noticed that the sound is not loud enough.
As soon as I get my car back from the bodyshop, I'll replace it.

LOL, funny. I have always wanted airhorns on a car. How do the Jspec "sport" horns sound?

Jspec horn sounds about the same, just higher pitch.

Based on experience, I havent had that great luck with air horns.. they tend to get water in the lines after time and well, the first few honks dont always come out nice and loud when there is water in the tubing. Plus, you need to run more current to the compressor.. so running a wiring harness is recommended.

Personally, my best recommendation is going with some Hella trumpet horns.. they are about the same size as stock, just louder and a nicer tone.. very much similar to the BMW or Mercedes factory horns, somewhere in that frequency range.

They are not too expensive either, I think about 25 bucks here:

You dont really need to use the relay with these, I think the OEM wiring is sufficient in powering them.

They were okay, but kinda overkill and not as powerful as I imagined. Honestly, the dual trumpet horns are MORE than sufficient. After trying over 3-4 different horns, I stuck with those.

I see you have heard both Hella horn sets.

Which set is louder? The spiral horns or the pancakes?

I want the loudest horns I can get. I have already had 2 near misses where someone didn't hear the wimpy little 350Z horns eeking out a toot-toot. :(

I want my horns to be HELLA loud. :)

Did you have to take off the front bumper to replace the horn?

Dont go with the JDM horns . . .they are not as loud as the stock horns.

Yeah someone warned me about that just in time. They LOOK really cool, but I don't want to give up performance for looks on the horns. :(

Hmm good point.

But the alarm "toot" is pretty short. I don't think it even lets the horns achieve full volume before it stops the toot.


If it is a problem I can always switch to flash only.

That blows happend to me a COUPLE of times but i was fortunate enough to get out of the way. Sad to say i looked it was all woman backing up and i guess not looking back i dont know , people gotta get some common sense when driving too many idiots on the road.

I had air horns on my last car; dual chrome trumpets with a compressor. it was around 130dB. AKA LOUD.

never found a fuse that would last more than about 3 sec of honking. I never had problems with water in the lines though. I wired them to their own independent button for my use but the stock horn remained for the alarm horn and whatnot.

only problem you might have; it was pretty large, it fit just fine in my dodge ram engine bay; but the Z is a bit more crampt.

Means people are actually using the Search function... :icon9: :icon14: :icon38:

So, anyone changed them out without having to wire a relay or any other complex wiring? I just wanna be able to un-plug the old ones and plug in the new ones.
