Need Help: Installation of HID's in Base Model

I am going to create an HID kit (buy the ballasts and bulbs seperately) and install them in my Base. Question is: Can I run the ballast off the H7 connectors (one ballast per connector) - assuming I replace the fuses with 30 amp ones?

My friend has an Accord, and his kit had a relay, with a power line to the battery. Since I am piecemilling my own kit together, I will not have the relay.

Can the stock wiring handle the initial power/ignitor cycle?

Thanks for your replies. (I did a search and this specific question was never answered)

yes, they will handle the HID lights. I am running a set of HID on my base 350z. What i did was tap the connector that connects to the bulb (the one inside the headlight), i didn't even have to splice it, i just opened the plastic connector, inserted the ones from the HID so that it made contact with the metal and the original wires, squashed it together and closed the connector.

That's great. I guess that since our cars wiring was designed for HID's, all Nissan did for the base was change the connector plug and housing for the bulb (and ommitted the ballasts).

Thanks for the reply.

How much does it cost to do this, and where do you get the parts?

Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade... But aren't HID kits no longer legally for sale? Being a vendor we had a lot of companies approach us trying to clear them out.

Just curious if you can still get kits, which I'm sure there are some places you can.

thanks guys

There are many places where you can still get the kits. Just search on google.

No you cannot install D2R bulbs in base model Z.

actually, you CAN but your not supposed to. the D2S bulbs are so that a certain part of the light is blocked to reduce glare coming out of the housing. you would have to dremel part of the bulb base and housing, but a D2R bulb will fit. just do it right the first time and get the D2S.

The base model has no HIDs at all... D2R / D2S are HID bulbs.

And you're wrong, by the way. The Z with HID uses D2R, not D2S.

ah, i had them backwards. but i thought that the base headlight had the same bulb socket? i do apologize for the mis-information.

What happens when you change your whole headlamp from your base model non-HID for a new headlamp with an HID unit? I know the base model headlight connector (plug) has 4 prongs and the HID healight has a 6 prong connector! How do you over come this?

From research I have established people have done this since the HID connector seperates the low and highbeam and also a negative wire thus having two additional prongs! My questions is where do I have to connect these two extra wires? I bought an HID headlight connector which I plan on splicing to my current harness so that I can connect and disconnect the HID headlight using an HID connector! HELP
